After a summer roadying, I thought it time to dig the P7 out for some off-road action.

A 15 mile loop around Moel Famau, the highest mountain in the Clwydian range, then down into the Vale of Clwyd, then back up again.

2400ft in all.

[Hugh Grant]...it's a hill. Not a mountain...[/Hugh Grant] wink

ETA:

Oh, and I've done the opposite to you. Spent most of the summer MTBing. Unusual for me, as I'm really a roadie at heart. I need to drag the road bike out again, as it hasn't seen daylight since August. Loathe to take the 'nice' road bike out on wet roads though, and my winterised road bike has frame damage. Need several dry days in a row to get the 'guardless road bike out at this time of year.

Haha, very good!

IIRC Hugh's empirical figure where a hill became a mountain was 1000 ft.

Moel Famau is a little above that mark at 1850 ft........

Yes, need to get the guards on the road bike now too, as the dry spell has finally ended and autumn is upon us.

Went out for a mooch around Minley yesterday evening, and found the 3 mile long Royal Signals Corps XC race lap still taped out in the woods. So I spent one lap trying to decipher it (tape had been moved in places) and then had a go at a lap or three (in the dark).

These photos were taken on that first 'recce lap' which took 15 minutes longer than my quickest effort. Lovely light quality though, in the last moments before the sun finally set. These photos fail to do it justice...
