Sunset over the 'bear pit' at Hawley...

And a sunset from a while ago, over at Minley...

fantastic!

How were the conditions this year? I saw the mud last year and it looked horrendous.. people saying they had to peddle just to get down the hills.

It's on my list - just need to get another few folk on board with the idea

Here are a few from when we did it last year!

I didn't compete this year as been waiting for an Op so could not commit, last year if you were averaging an hour a lap you were doing okay, the mud was like cement and the last section is normally fast sweeping downhill but it was 50/50 if you actually had to get off and push, the mud was that bad!
This year the conditions were absolutely perfect, bit cold so a few layers needed at night but the boys were flying round. Speaking to a few boys doing it and from my own experience I reckon it was about 15 mins a lap quicker this year for the same effort.
You should do it, the atmosphere and camaraderie as you go round is fantastic, plodding round at 3am with just the odd light on the trails is such a good experience. We are definitely doing it again next year.

P.S. I live 6 miles from the course so if you decide to enter and need any tips or advice just give me a shout

thanks R1! So it was your photos I saw last year too then!

I'd love to do it but there is no way I'd do it solo and the other guys arnt quite so keen.

Great to get some info from a local though. Are you putting it on the list for next year?

Yeah I put a few pics up from last year!

You should show them this video from last year, I think it gives a great idea of what the 'Puffer is all about...
https://youtu.be/UrEDbSOjyA4

We missed it this year as I am was not sure if I would have had my ankle operation or not before yesterday and a couple of lads offshore.

I was up taking pics yesterday and saw an old friend who has won the Quads category before and he said he would do it with me, he is on a different level to me tho so not sure whether to do pairs with him or do the quads again. No way would I do solo but I will definitely be competing next year that's for sure smile

For every team bombing round there are plenty of teams just doing it for fun so my best tip is to just enjoy it, oh, and bring plenty of brake pads!!

Cycled up El Teide, knocking the Galibier off Strava as my longest climb. Mrs Mark83 suggested I hire a bike while we're in Tenerife so I obliged and hired one from Bike Point.

It's 47km long and to be honest a lot of the kms were rubbish but there were some nice sections. Cycling up through the clouds was good as was bumping into some Cannondale Drapac riders.

Great pics! I'm just back from a similar trip. The climb up from Los Christianos to Vilaflor wasn't great - I much preferred to route up from Granadilla. Above Vilaflor was great though, if a bit cold on the way down through the clouds

Is that a TeamMachine or a RoadMachine?

I did the climb from Los Christianos too.

It was a Teammachine with Ultegra Di2. Not bad, I sent them my measurements from my bike and they had it ready to go when I picked it up.

Seems like the whole of PH was climbing Teide over the last few days! A bunch of us were there at the weekend. Here are a couple of snaps. Plenty more in the blog post I've just added.
