Another sunrise over the bay picture from me, an hour before and I was in a 5 minute hail storm...

Few pics from a few rides in NZ over the last couple of weeks.

First few are from the St.James cycle trail. Last 3 are from around Wanaka

Racing today at Aston Hill DH3. I'm a bit indifferent about my performance today, on the plus I chose correctly racing the 140mm trail bike instead of the DH bike, it didn't merit a DH bike. On the down side not enough tyre clearance for the bog like conditions of the last 100m of the track and storming runs to that point turned crap with the finish line in sight as my wheels could barely turn. As a result I ended up with 1:57 & 1:56' which placed me 29/50 on the 1st run in masters and 22/36 in the 2nd run, only 36 rides for the 2nd run as so many went home due to the bad conditions, final position 29/50. I take a bit of solice knowing full well a bike with a bit better mud clearance and I'd easily have knocked 10seconds off. Also that I'm 1.5months off my 40th birthday and if I was in vets today I'd have placed 10/22 which I would have been chuffed at. So goal of 'finish in the top half' of my field or overall 119/216 wasn't achieved today but objectively I didn't do too badly.

Headed to Cannock Chase for Sunday morning, a couple of laps of Follow the Dog rather than going round the Monkey Trail, but still a lot of fun in good weather!

Wow. That looks stunning. My cycling is pretty low level at the moment but I'd love to ride roads like that one day.

You'll see in the blog that I rode with a friend whose toughest ride to date was a short ride up Box Hill. He had an amazing weekend and busted right through previous plateaus.

Spring is certainly springing here this week, shame the fountains are still turned off so my normal bidon-refill stop (pictured) is out of action.
