Never had a hotel bh about a bike, frankly they are no dirtier to carpets than a push chair. You'll be done by some point before 2PM, 2 nights needed?
I'm not sure about taking stuff and leaving it at the start finish etc is that all taken care off? Also how do the trains cope with thousands of bikes on the Sunday making their way home?

Also trying to work that out.. Don't fancy driving up and parking all day in London, doubt trains will be on that early, and might even do a Brighton and nor allow bikes after?

Got my Congratulations Magazine - pretty happy! Gives me a goal to work towards.

Have to admit I feel a bit like that, yet I know people who have just been accepted for the 3rd time in a row....

Mrs Maddad made a sensible suggestion; if you have been accepted in the ballot result then you are excluded from the next 3 or 5 ballots, but can still take part as a charity/sponsored' rider. Seems a fairer way to do things and in theory means each year more Ride 100 virgins get to take part...

The system does seem extremely unfair. All those I know that have got in have done so previously so it's not their first time

3 applications, 3 rejections! I got a place through a contact last year so hopefully I can get one again.

Doesn't look like I'm in this year but would have to defer to 2016 anyway thanks to a wedding that day.
Confirm as not in but will try again next year (previous charity spot in 2013 and ballot slot in 2014).

It's my mates third time. But first time I applied tongue out

I think you were a bit cheeky tbh with 3 applications with different addresses etc though tbh. Perhaps they had an algorithm that sussed you out.

System seems like a ballot to me - so couldn't be more fair.

I didn't get in this year but got a spot last year.

I also think thats a good idea. I have been looking at charity places. They all want £500 or there abouts, but I asked for sponsorship when I did 240 miles in 24hours last year, so not sure I feel like asking people for more money for less miles and a bit of a jolly.

I say jolly, but I recon it would be an absolute bh to get to the start line and home again and I live 20 minutes from Euston Station!

I think that any oversubscribed event like this is always going to be flawed, or at least have people claiming [toddler mode]"it's not fair!!!!" [/toddler mode]

If it was first come, first served, the servers would probably crash on the day of sale, and people who had to work or were away would moan because they couldn't get online at the relevant time.

This year will be the third time the event has taken place. I didn't enter the first year as it clashed with a family holiday. I applied and was accepted last year, and have been rejected this year. I'm not bitter- there's always next year!

Does anyone know the best way to sort accomodation out for the two nights in London - are there certain hotels that will put on an early breakfast and are they happy for bikes to be left in bedrooms etc?
I had my family with me so stayed at the Ramada next door to Excel, handy for the Saturday nonsense but not cheap exactly...

They didn't moan about bikes in rooms before or after the event, it was a nice short ride to the start and not far back at the end... also the idea to-from distance for me to score a Century for the day despite the event being 14miles shorter due to the weather last year :-)

I didn't ask about a 5:30am breakfast, took a couple of bananas and a sandwich to eat at Stratford while waiting to start, my stomach wasn't keen on early pre-event food anyway.

I got a know, wife got a yes. She's terrified now as she has ridden less than 40 miles in one go to date!

I'm considering a charity place to keep her company.

Ballots are always painful, what irritates me is people who enter the ballot with no real intention of following through and inevitably are successful in gaining a place which is then wasted.

Really flaky girl in our running club was successful in the London Marathon Ballot for this year, only to announce proudly on Facebook shortly afterwards she was giving up running to 'follow her dream' of becoming a bodybuilder. She's nearly 50 years old. Pi55 was boiling at that one.

The pack has arrived and confirms the result from the site.

Quite looking forward to doing some of my regular routes through town on closed roads.
