Sorry to see your accident.
Had a very similar incident with a Nissan Micra in 2010 which destroyed my Giant CF road bike.
Have to say that it put me off CF frames, and I now have a Titanium frame Van Nicholas, which isn't quite as light, but is even more comfortable, can hang a bike rack (great for commuting) and doesn't have the same tendency to snap under impact.

As if by magic all the haters vanish. You should blog about bikes more often, Dan.
I think my favourite visual statement of the synergy between driver's cars and push bikes has to be the pic that keeps surfacing on here of a couple of bikes lashed to the rollcage of a Caterham. Great stuff.
ETA Ah, the Pedal Powered section. That explains the lack of vitriol.

We could move it to General Gassing to test the water? Either way it's heartening to see we can put a bike story on the home page. God forbid we run anything on TDI cars from the VW group though! Edited by Chris71 on Friday 22 February 15:17
Dan
Great article. Not quite into my road riding yet, but certianly into MTB. I cycle my local 'Guild Wheel' every week. 22 miles of really mixed terrain. That Cars, Motorbikes and now Cycling that I can add to my list of things to get around on.
I bought the bike, using 'MM' of course, in paying out near a grand to save money on fuel. Have yet to commute on it lol. Then there is all the money I spend on gear.

Is Mr Dan Trent going to make this story even more interesting by telling us how his licence disappeared in the first place - totting up or out and out skullduggery???
I too am a keen cyclist. It should be compulsory before you get given a driving licence and might then allow for better awareness when driving.
Three performance cars and four bikes (mountain/velodrome/racing/commuter ie Brompton) and plenty of Assos lycra.
Pip

You've certainly got a "get out of my way" raceface! Or did that stepdown look bigger from up top?? ;-)Clinton Baptiste said:

Racing down a rocky descent at 60mph in the evening twilight is also very good for your concentration levels.
60mph off road on a mtb? No chance i'm not having that!love mtbing but just not accessible for me at the mo so the late 90s kona holds the off road fort. deposit down on a new wilier gt frame. but my current favorite is the Brompton s2l. fantastic bike and everyone should have one.
I've got a kit car and I manage to carry my bike.
I strap some pipe lagging to the roll cage, Pipe lagging under the down tube. Then I place the bike in with rear wheel against the dash and down tube resting on the rollcage. I then strap it up. Front wheel in wheel bag and then sits between the bike and side of the car. Then cycling bag packs out the rest of it. I have turned up to a Merida Mountain Bike event in such fashion and the Tour of the Peak Road sportive in too and had the most amazing days driving out in sunshine and driving back after a top day on the bike. Absolute blast and I thoroughly recommend a touch of impractical transport to your lives.
