Top stuff, sheer grit and determination to get it done.

Hope I can do this sort of thing at your age.

You absolute freaking nutjob! good effort sir!
Maybe we should have a PH WackyRacer Sportive, setting off from his front garden at 5:40 AM biggrin
(I'm actually half serious, this level of nutjob determination should possibly be enshrined with an annual recognition...)

On the one hand I agree with the comment about how ridiculous this was. No training, not prepared for the possibility you'd be out after dark, probably worried your family sick.

On the other hand, I think it's a perfectly good example of British eccentricity.

Well done. Pleased it had a good outcome.

Great idea for an annual PH ride.

Ride, sure. Six-hour walk along a road in the dark, not so much.

Only just seen the thread, came here from the one about riding in the dark. Had to read every last word, great pics, mental in so many ways. Would love to know how many miles you walked pushing that bike! The bit about no lights though, jeez...

I estimate about sixty on the bike and sixty pushing it....(give or take)

Planning a repeat for my 70th, but might set off a couple of hours earlier....smile

Wow.... Just wow....
The levels of insanity and sheer bloody mindedness are truly epic here.

I'm up for a commemorative PH sportive :-) Agreed that this is the kind of epic achievement (or true idiocy, its really hard to separate the two!) That should be enshrined and celebrated :-)

Very impressive! I know a lot of the route you took and there are some fair climbs on there. I don't condone no lights but you did make it home after all biggrin Will you now be getting back into cycling or was this a one off?
