Is there a current link for signing up?
It's fifteen years since I hung up the Nomex but maybe some of it will come back. It'll have to if I'm to make up for my lack of pace on the bike.

I'm not expecting much from the ride - I think it may even be a frustrating experience. I'm just hoping to get lucky and be drawn into the competitive round. I'll probably do 'OK' in a TT but I'm confident my track driving is at the sharp end, so I could be in with a fair shout at the prize. Probably true of many PHers though.
Don't expect much from the ride at all, you will get a boggo Jag with a single bike rack on it, that you will never see during the ride. You may get a free inner tube and/or gel too if your really lucky. It's worth going though for a bit of fun, and as you say to get your name in the draw. I was never lucky enough to be picked, would have really fancied my chances at a TT plus a timed lap.

Amersham, 15th August for me.
I'm not expecting too much beyond the opportunity to ride with some different people on some different roads. But that seems a good enough reason to go along.
Signed up for the Amersham one too. PH jersey in full effect?I'm not expecting too much beyond the opportunity to ride with some different people on some different roads. But that seems a good enough reason to go along.

That's a bit harsh, if my experience of the Midhurst one is anything to go by. Nice bacon butty/Danish plus coffee and juice at the pre-ride briefing, a few giveaways. The ride itself was good, met some new people and rode with some of them. Plenty of support cars which I saw quite a bit of, refreshment stop mid ride. I think last year (the second year) the route was different to the first. And a nice curry in the sunshine at the golf club afterwards, with all the golfers looking at us funny It's worth going though for a bit of fun, and as you say to get your name in the draw. Treat it as a ride out with different people, I would expect on the second stage the numbers are quite small to make the chances of getting through even if you are bloody good. Must be quite hard for Jaguar to get the right balance on an event like this, they don't want any negative publicity and when you have 60 odd people turning up for a bike ride the chances of things going off track must be quite high.

I went on both the harwoods and ha fox one, and by the sounds of the people talking about their ride outs at the final, the Midhurst event is probably one of the best of the lot, with their breakfast before and lunch after and a good stocked stop point, along with 3 or 4 cars for the various groups. But then they are serving 3/4 dealers.Treat it as a ride out with different people, I would expect on the second stage the numbers are quite small to make the chances of getting through even if you are bloody good. I wonder about the organisation of these things. Obviously a car dealer is likely to have not the first clue about how to organise and run something like this, so I assume it's a corporate thing that the dealers are "encouraged" to support.
From the sounds of things though some may be more enthusiastic/willing than others.

Fair do's, however, I did the Guildford one twice ( may be the same dealer as Thames Ditton ) and it was poorly organised. Both times, they confused the start times for the day, so people turned up 1 and a half hours early. Then they went overboard with health and safety, which lasted around an hour or so, so we were stood about for almost three hours before riding the pretty dull 50 mile loop. There were coffee and butties which was nice, but starting the ride at 1030am because of all of that meant it turned into a VERY long day.Treat it as a ride out with different people, I would expect on the second stage the numbers are quite small to make the chances of getting through even if you are bloody good. The route was the same both times, and both times we never once at any point had any support. There was a mobile number so if you got tired the standard, unmarked family saloon Jag would come and collect you, but it only had a rack for one bike, so you got dropped back and they couldn't take more than one bike at a time.
None of that mattered as such and I enjoyed getting out with new people, but, the ride did not match the advertised experience at all, plus, it turned into a whole day in the end which was not my expectation.
Amersham have just posted theirs, but as it's the 2014 route I wonder if they've made a mistake or are just being lazy?

Nothing too scary, shame it's an 'out then back' rather than a nice loop though.

Only 530m climbing. What a waste of the Chilterns https://www.strava.com/routes/835953

(Not that I'm a climber. On the contrary, I need the practice!)
