Ride like a pro with Sky and Jag
Discussion
I popped along and did the Woodford one on Sunday, thoroughly recommended if you are looking for a fun social ride. The pace was brisk rather than fast (18.5 average) but this meant that everyone could keep up. There was a nice bunch of guys taking part with plenty of interesting chat both while riding and at the midway stop. We had two support cars with us the whole way (one front, one rear) and breakfast, drinks and lunch were all thrown in free of charge, plus a couple of goody bags to take home.
All in all as a day out it compares favourably to certain sportive's I've seen charging decent amounts of money to enter. It was not a hardcore training ride but then it was never meant to be, just a lot of fun.

Shame. I was looking forward to riding with you. KeithR said:
Ahhh you must be with Sotonia.
I was a member about a year ago but it lapsed and I didn't renew it. After deciding to give club riding another go, I've since joined the Fareham Wheelers. They ride from Wickham, which is slightly easier for me to get to.
I'd be up for a ride with you one Sunday though. Could I do so as a guest? Likewise, you're welcome to come to one of our club runs.
Here is my route for Sunday. Will be more fun than riding with Jaguar.I was a member about a year ago but it lapsed and I didn't renew it. After deciding to give club riding another go, I've since joined the Fareham Wheelers. They ride from Wickham, which is slightly easier for me to get to.

Have to keep an eye out for you, as I have just joined the wheelers this year, only done a few TTs and couple of club runs though!I was a member about a year ago but it lapsed and I didn't renew it. I quite enjoyed that. A real spread of ability, and for the most part there was always someone to ride with. No stopping.
Managed to waste the money I spent of servicing the bike by bending it (still ridable, but would benefit from rebuilding the bar and front caliper) about 5 miles from the end trying to make up time on my group that I lost waiting for a car on a roundabout.

Good there was no stops. I think that was the main gripe I had, 3 hours of riding, 1 hour 10 mins of rest. Looking back had there have been no breaks I would have really rated the ride.
Unfortunatley around two thirds of the way round the "half hour to fix" puncture killed the pace...

yeah, I would say if you are a very accomplished rider it wouldn't be your cup of tea, but for someone at my level it was a fun and reasonably challenging ride/ Couple of category 4 climbs (strava) and a category 3. Managed to average 18, which I am happy enough with. There were plenty going much quicker.
My one gripe was that there were a couple of busy roundabouts near the start, which split the bog starting group up (I was at the back) and the wind basically made it impossible to get back on the back. That said, I think a lot of guys shot off quickly, because I did spend the remainder of the ride quietly picking off the back half of the group. - The not much the organisers could have done really.
But yeah, first time I have ridden as part of the group, and I quite enjoyed it.

This was my write up from another forum.

I don't know if anybody saw but Jaguar were running some "ride like a pro" events, which were basically a ride out with a food stop half way around and some grub at the beginning and end. I went to the one in Midhurst today, was a 48 mile loop, decided to go out with the fast group, which I was debating after the first couple of lumps in the road! But thought I'll persist, once it flattened a bit I got into a rhythm.
That was for all of 6 miles, until a Bee got under my glasses arm and stung me on the side of the head, which made me throw my glasses to the floor and pull over, the group leader said we'll slow the pace so you can catch back up, managed to find my glasses eventually so went back out. I then went and cycled at the hardest pace I have ridden for the next 30 miles or so until the food stop, where the fast group were having a quick bite. Had a quick mars bar and carried on, pushed on for the last 15 miles, but I was shot towards the end. 30 miles at 20-21mph is tough, and made me realise I have got a long way to go!
Was a good fun day with good grub, think there is potential to get picked to do a days session at Silverstone in cars and on bikes, and then could compete for a weeks training trip to Majorca, but I don't think that will happen!

I was booked onto the Wilmslow one today but didn't go after a) some of the reports on here b) over 150 people being registered seemingly of all sorts of ability c) the fact people on the strava discussion talking about "full gas" and the like, Jesus wept. Oh yeah, and the weather is ste.
Well, looks like I was vindicated according to a mate who did go. "Limited" organisation of any note and people far to keen to treat it like a race but with none of the skills, ability, roadcraft etc so lo and behold there were a fair few crashes and tumbles, some pretty serious. He marshalled the other couple of lads from our club into a trio of mutual protection and survived but apparently it was hairy.
If people want to race why don't they go to an actual race?

The problem is, or was, as was realised in our group - despite what they say about who they choose to go to Mallorca, they HAVE to give it to someone decent, and coupled with the fact you HAVE to register / link / upload to Strava to take part, so it seems that the selection will be ability based.
I knew that there was no segment created for our loop as I rode 10 miles of it and created a one off segment to work it out, however, most riders believed the ride would be segmented and checked at the end, so the keen riders were keen to finish first and that became obvious at the end. Plus, all hills were treated with the same competitive nature, with riders believing the hill segments will be checked to see who was fastest and therefore who will be selected to go to the next stage.
I know it is supposed to be random selection, but I and nobody we rode with believed it, s Jaguar have sort of created this situation by themselves.
I found the motive and point for the day very unclear and confused. I'm still not sure what it was all about. Our group never took off like some of the others seem to have done, which is a shame. Crashes not good though.
