I have just ordered the RT-58 from PX, after weeks of looking around
Its my first bike and I wanted something that was comftable and that had a reasonably high spec for the riding I'm going to be doing
I saved a few pounds as I am having shipped out the of the UK, so therefore no VAT to pay
There is currently about a 10/15 day build time, even though it shows in stock on the website
Its being built next week so I should have it the week after
I currently have a Planet X Cross bike on order. Should be picking it up next Friday. I can't wait. That and the Boardman are two of the best value cross bikes out there
I also have a friend who has just got the latest RT58 and he loves it.
I'm not sure I would go for the Pro Carbon, I'd want the RT58 as a bare minimum.
PX shift a huge number of bikes. I've heard between 80 to a 100 a week and if they were that bad, then surely people wouldn't be buying them in such high numbers.
Might be worth a trip to your local PX dealer. I appreciate it could be a bit of a trek (no pun intended), but I'd want to ride a bike if I was spending £2k on it.
There is a Planet X dealer in Hertfordshire if you are at this end of the country and he is really good

A friend of mine is currently shopping for a new road bike. He is thinking Canyon SL (I think it is) or Cannondale Synapse 2014 for around £1500. I think the Cannondale has some 105 parts, but some other Tiagra/own brand, where as the Canyon is all 105. We were at the London Bike Show on Sunday, he had a little ride on a couple of Canyons but the Cannondale wasn't available to try. It was a billiard smooth 500m loop so you couldn't tell a lot from the ride. The Cannondale guy implied they were building them frantically as the reviews have been so good sales have gone through the roof.
We looked at similar priced Giants, Treks etc. And then we got to Planet X (and also Ribble) and on paper you're getting a better bike for less money with either. It isn't £50-£70 less, it's around £500, so I know I'd find it hard to not go for either of those. I would want at least a 10 min test ride to compare if possible, but that can be hard to arrange.
I was also impressed with the Kinesis bikes on show, but they don't have a carbon and my mate is convinced he wants carbon.
As to the more relaxed set up v more racey, I wouldn't get too hung up on it. The differences aren't enormous (bit like frame sizes) and there are plenty of adjustments you can make to alter the characteristics of a bike.

I've had my pro carbon for around 3 months now and can't fault it. It's my first carbon framed bike so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it's nice and comfy and climbs excellently. My only quibble is the left shifter seems reluctant to change from the big to small (and vice versa). I think that's a common SRAM problem however
