bounce Well happy, actually did my first century yesterday. Sure, it wasn't the fastest ride in the world (okgo tongue out) but I did it.

Bit disappointed that my good leg packed up with 25 miles to go so I had to limp in, but I wasn't last and if my knee had held out I would have stayed with the pack I set off with the whole way.

I also know that I absolutely categorically can't climb for toffee nor will I ever be able to.

I even got a medal that is probably worth almost a pound...

Congratulations, this is my aim for the summer.

I went out to do 50 yesterday and rolled home with 45 underneath me after taking a wrong turn, lucky as was fairly spent.

Great work. I managed 55 miles yesterday with 3,600 ft of elevation and that was painful enough. However, as I'm doing 200 miles over 2 days in July I need to up my miles considerably.

Huge tip of the hat for those that have doe this, I've got this as a target - not done more than 68, but in my defence it was done on a full-sus Mtb as a 110km off road race. No idea if I'll find the time for soon though.

3,718ft of climbing which is what killed my knee frown

Hadn't realised it would show up on the PH Strava feed...

Good work, good to know you've got it in the bag!

Just looking back it would seem I've only ever done it a few times!

Then you need to ride a route where you have no option of bailing beforehand.biggrin

Well Done!

having cracked the 100 mle barrier last year I know the good feeling you will have had crossing the line.

You have all summer now to do some more.

I was just interested, as i did 41 miles on saturday, which started off 20mph average, and gradually dropped to 17.2 by the end. Based on that rate i full expect that if i did 100 miles i would find that by the end i would be going so slowly i'd be better off crawling on my hands and knees than pedalling!
Damn impressive anyway, especially that ascent.
I have a dodgy knee too, and was going to start a thread for advice, but have a bike-fit session at 700 in Windsor tomorrow so will see what they advise first...

  • Edit: just seen the strava summary - i reckon that average is pretty good considering clap

49th out of 99. I reckon I could have been just inside the top thirty If I hadn't picked up an injury.

I'll need an MTB chainset if I do it again hehe

You need to pace these rides if its new territory, setting off like a rocket will indeed hamper you later on! Fueling plays a big part when you get passed the 3 hour mark on rides, you can really fall of a cliff if you don't eat enough!

Well done.
I'm booked on the London revolution, looking forward to it. But I will have to clack in some mileage training as I tend to only do rides 30-45 miles usually.

Yeah, on that 54 mile ride i did i literally stopped 2 miles from home and thought i was going to fall over.
On saturday i had a decent breakfast, brought loads of drink, and had a banana and some soreen halfway through, with a smattering of jelly babies along the way - much better!

A bike fit is money well spent. I've got odd length cranks which really helps but the one thing I would change is gearing. I've been up steep hills before but I had either MTB or CX gearing. If you've got road gearing it puts too much strain on the knees when you're grinding. I'd definitely fit a ridiculously low bottom gear if I did it again...
