Just cut to the chase and get the Cento 1. http://wilierbikes.co.uk/2014/product.php/285/1/ce...

It has the fancy wheels, the Di2 and it's at the sweet spot for price/performance at around £4k.

My friend had a carbon Willier and it cracked on the seat stay, they were very good and replaced It very quickly. He was back on the road within a week.

If you want a winter/wet weather bike why not wait for more of the big brands bring out some disk braked versions of their bikes? It's what I'm doing(at the moment, unless something catches my eye in the meantime).

But you'll flog the bike that's come off the back of your car to someone else without telling them I bet!

Along with my potential wheel upgrade I really want to replace my bianchi and get hold of a winter bike I can enjoy all year round. Plus it was my first bike and im getting a bit bored of it having ridden a long way on it.

Keep coming back to the wilier gtr in glossy lime. Veloce, kerb appeal and carbon for 1500 all makes sense to me. Howevee two carbon bikes? Thinking also if the izoard to maintain the heavier aluminium feel and consequent training benefits.

Wilier bikes look fantastic and are rare, any horror stories with them?
So, if I've got this right:

You want to replace you "winter" bike (with none of the usual "winter" bits i.e. mudguard mounts, singlespeed etc, etc) with an even more expensive, and equally-useless-as-a-winter-bike bike.

How on earth does that make sense?

And kerb appeal. Really?

You're either wanting the attention on an internerd forum, or looking to piss money up the wall. Both are stupid.

If I'm not mistaken I'm sure the OP was moaning a couple of weeks ago about falling out of love with cycling, or words to that effect. Hmmm, buying new equipment to keep your interest going, always a slippery slope...

WTF???? "It has the fancy wheels" confused

Specification lists Shimano RS21 wheels. Merlin Cycles will send you a pair of those for £125. Hardly 'fancy' wheels?

I think that might just be worse value for money than a de rosa. Close call.

Quite.

Groupset? Merlin, £1000
Wheels? Merlin, £125

Complete bike? Wilier, £4250

Knock £1125 off that = £3125

For the seatpost (price not found), saddle £107 (wiggle), stem £81 (CRC), bars £81 (CRC), tubes £8 (retail) and tyres £48/pair (CRC)? Not sure, but at £2808 it's starting to make the frame, forks and seatpost look VERY expensive indeed, especially as Wilier won't pay anywhere near those retail prices for the components they fit rolleyes

Or you could just buy the frame/fork/headset at £2399 and build the fecker yourself. You might even save a bit on the build that way wink

Jesus wept! If you want a winter bike they get a winter bike, starting with something like this frameset http://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/products/racelight/4...

Or one of these with some decent hand built wheels on it http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/road/sportive/...

Good plan - what is it you are working towards with your training?

Endurance mainly however I rarely have the time for long rides so its a slow process. I will wait and see how this wilier rides this weekend. I was impressed with the carbon izoard I ride a year or so ago

If you want rid of the Bianchi then just buy an interesting frame/forks and move the bits over. That way you won't have to deal with the morality of selling it, either.

You'd spunk less money up the wall searching out second hand bikes and bits on ebay and investing in some mechanics training.

rubbish. My veloce groupset is 4 years old on my 2nd hand Wilier, used all year round, and I myself have done over 1000 miles in foul conditions these past 6 months.

Apologies OP for being quite so blunt but that idea is the most stupid fking idea I've heard in a long time.

Why would you buy a Wilier to use as a winter bike?

A winter bike should have sturdy components, mudguards and be sturdy enough to deal with the worst of the weather.

FWIW I have the 2013 version of the Wilier and there is no way on earth I'd buy it to use as a winter bike, for one take a look at the cable routing.

What you want to do, IMO, is the cycling equivalent of having a 3 series and a C Class on the driveway, madness.

If you have 1500 to spunk either get some seriously nice wheels for the De Rosa or put it towards buying a proper winter frame.
