Mostly commuting on mountain bike, Mallorca next week on road bike, so will add 2 or 3 hundred more km.
Mr Phelps said you're looking at more than double that whilst you're away.. All I know is I have to try and match your mileage! ;-)

My target was to exceed my 2013 mileage by my birthday (May 9th).

2013 mileage: 1233
2014 mileage to date: 1254 (with another 80-90 planned for tomorrow).

So I'm very pleased with 2014 so far.

Not a huge amount of flat land around here...

Interting to see the hillyness for various people. Some of the totals imply they're flatter than a witches tit - even riding on the cheshire plain gets you 1k foot in 30 miles.
Equally, other people seem to either do nowt but hill repeats, or live half way up the eiger. Some people seem hiller than a hilly thing!

For me it depends what mood I'm in and what the current Strava challenges are...

...it was last year, I know, but I did this ride chasing the IMBA climbing challenge:- http://www.strava.com/activities/93725263
there were 3 rides for me last November that were each over 5,300ft of climbing, simply to gain a silly digital 'badge' rolleyes

54.3mi & 5,338ft
51.7mi & 5,387ft
78.6mi & 5,535ft

The monthly challenges can certainly be a factor in motivating me to ride on days when otherwise I might not bother.

Those rides are hillier than a hilly hilly thing.
I live on the edge of the peak district. A hilly ride for me (like "lets go and hit the hills") is 4.5 feet in 40 miles as a benchmark. Getting. 5.5 in 40 miles must be brutal! It seems like such a small difference on a screen, the reality is an average increase in climb grade of about 3 or 4 cogs. Chapeau.

If you check my speed over those rides, you'll find it was really quite slow wink

What some call "hill repeats," others call "commuting" spin

It's a reasonable workout: http://www.strava.com/activities/122709822 (5360ft in 36.5 miles)

I see you're in Wellington. To those who haven't been, I can confirm that for every metre travelled forward, you ascend two metres. Fact. Multiply this by a factor of two for heavily loaded touring bikes and you get the right idea.

Not sure if I'm lucky or unlucky but most of my routes allow for a fair bit of climbing. Would love to try some of those pan-flat route some of you have to see if my average speed went up a notch or two

Wellington seems to be the hilliest place to have PH members. Stu and I are always right near the top of the PH elevation despite being nowhere near the longest ks. Currently I'm second and I havn't even riden since Thursday

Bump!

Another month has gone by, so how are people doing for 2014?

46 rides
767 miles / 1234 km
29531 feet / 9002 metres elevation
65 hours moving time
Longest ride - still 45 miles/72 km so far

Hoping to get the bike out for some commuting miles soon with a new job, but a month away in the summer will cancel out those extra miles I'm sure!

1,417.5 miles, 125,922 ft, and 84 rides.

The Pennines are not flat, but I've been working at Stansted and in Norfolk for most of the year, which are.
