Yup! Mine has given good service - just make sure the nuts/bolts/whatever around the top clamp section are all done up tight, otherwise, bike may come tumbling down(don't ask how I knowirked).

Bought the tool kit, you'll pay £12 for a cassette socket so £15 for whats in the box is a bargain.
Gloves are very much like the ones Lidl sell, but at £4 great for summer.

Was going to go for some socks, but little shorter than I'd have liked unfortunately! Did look like pretty good quality for 2.99 though!

Does anyone have any experience of the GPS watch? Looks packed full of features for sixty quid, bluetooth and waypoint navigation aren't even available on Garmins at twice the price, not to mention the 16 hour battery life (is that recording?)

I'm looking to change my Forerunner 10 as its accuracy isn't the best in the trees, as most of the Strava segments I try are trails in the woods it's not the most helpful. Does anyone know if it has the option to record at 1 second intervals?

I bought the toolkit as well. If nothing else, it'll do for a kit to leave permanently in the car. Plenty of them left in the Blackwater store, and gloves ago-go. Some older stuff from previous deals with big reductions - SPD shoes and older gloves, along with huge amounts of the womens' shorts and jerseys. I nabbed 2 cans of GT82 too, but sadly no sign of this mystic GPS watch that featured so heavily in their advertising.

As an aside, the shopping experience itself was absolute hell. So many shoppers, too little space in the store, a significant minority determined to block aisles with their 'double-parked' trolleys, and more "Grippers" than I've ever seen assembled in one place. (Gritted teeth, white knuckles, and a fully focussed "must not release grip on trolley at any cost" look on their face - jeez, ladies and gents, chill the fk out, it's only shopping, FFS! rolleyes )

I'd imagine the watches to be in a glass cabinet together with any other 'high-priced' electrics they might have(usually in the middle of store). smile

Yes, pretty sure I saw the watches in a display cabinet though not in the market for one, along with a Hero HD copy video camera for £29.

Decided not to buy one there and subsequent reviews say low quality. Then found a good review of the SJ4000 on ebay so paid £34 and will see how that works...

I found the 'anti-shoplifting' cabinet. Nothing at all cycle-related in it, only three items as far as I could see, including some form of external hard drive and what might have been an e-book reader thingummybob. Blank looks from staff at the checkout too, but as I only wanted to look at the thing I declined the offer to summon a colleague to ask - it was crazy busy in there, and plenty of customers behind me in the queue. I didn't want to be "that bloody idiot" holding up proceedings at a busy time, to be honest.

ETA: Come to think of it, the watch wasn't on their 'in store' promotional poster, so perhaps they simply weren't a "participating store" for that particular item?

Aldi on the weekend! No chance, I went in at 10am a few weeks ago to pick up the Garmin and somehow the place was already packed! I'll wander over at 9.30 tonight and see what's left, none of the mentals know it's open that late wink

picked up some gloves that also, conveniently, match my bike colour scheme and 3 tins of GT85.

The shorts and the tops though just scream ALDI biggrin

The padded shorts are quite comfy, got two pairs yesterday but from an older range, paid £2.49 a pair, RRP was £9.99 so wont grumble at that.

Also picked up a bike mate computer, read this review before hand

http://www.artifex.me.uk/james/blog/aldi-wireless-...

seemed decent enough for me as Im only just starting out so wanted something to tell me distance covered instead of chewing up all my data with an app on the phone, used it tonight seems pretty accurate as I ran the comp alongside my app for comparison so app ditched for now.

Also purchased a floor pump, finally got my tyres upto 100psi (So the gauge said) and the ride is so much better.

The lights are Moon Comets. Great, I killed my front one using an innappropriate USB source somehow.

The Garmin Edge 500 really does look like a bargain at £80.

HandTec are selling them for £114 new, and even on Ebay the going rate seems to be around the £100 to £110 mark. No sensors with it, but a bargain if you don't need them. I'm going to go in and take a look at those 'Moon' rear lights, to bolster my visibility to following drivers through the winter. A Bontrager Flare 3 to replace the one I lost would cost £20, so £9 a pop seems like a good price if they're similar performance/quality to the Moon lights they look like.

2 Downsides to the Edge 500 imo: no mapping and usb charging. For £100 you could get a Garmin Dakota 20 and download the free Talkytoaster UK 'better than OS' maps, and it runs off (rechargeable or normal) AA batteries so you can easily run long trips. It is a bit bulkier & more rugged than the Edge though and neither of these do wireless uploads.

Both have barometric altimeters so you shouldn't get robbed of altitude by Strava, unlike stupid me who bought one without.
