33. That seems to be fairly typical from what I've seen.

Very nice!

Was the duty on top of the shipping charge you paid 2C2?

I paid 309 for the wheels including delivery (50). Then 33 on top for duty etc and parcelforce's handling charge.

Just checked my order tracking and it took three weeks exactly from order to my door (two of that spent with customs!).

I'll be interested to hear how they ride.

Hopefully I'll be out on them Sunday so I'll let you know how I get on. :-)

I've been riding SRAM S30s for the last 2,000 miles which are closely related to Zipp 101s so I'm interested to see how deep section wheels compares.

I have a pair of 50mm U shape 23mm wide wheels coming from Far.

I wanted the basalt brake track. I opted for ceramic bearings and Swissstpo yellow pads.

I'll post pics when they arrive.

For those that care, here are the weights:

Front
693g - wheel only
750g - skewer and tape
1072g - above plus 23mm GP4000s and tube

Rear
891g - wheel only
952g - skewer, tape and cassette spacer
1497g - above plus Ultegra 6700 cassette, tube and 23mm GP4000s

Off out now to see what they're like. :-)

The quoted weight for my Fars is 1450g. Weight weenies suggest their quoted weights are quite accurate.

The savings on the wheels mean my upgrade from 10sp Di2 to 11sp is free, as were the tyres (GP4000S II with a yellow side wall), supersonic tubes with Zipp valve extenders and 11sp Force 11-26 cassette and chain were effectively free. :-)

Does anyone know what size Veloplugs I will need?

First impressions, i'm very impressed!

I went out on a fairly bumpy club run (for Essex/Suffolk!) and I could really feel the difference from the SRAM S30s I was running before.

Easy to spin up, very quick to accelerate but crucially less effort to maintain a set pace. On the flats we were hitting anywhere from 20 mph to 25 mph as a group and its here that I noticed the difference.

No noticeable penalty on the hills, in fact I would say that the stiffness was noticeable again here.

Braking. Not too shabby actually. I imagine wet weather will be another matter completely!

Comfort wise, the ride wasn't too harsh. I'm going to try 24s/25s next so i'm expecting an improvement over my GP4000s.

My son is on his second set of 50mm carbon tubular rims from 2011Cycling2011. The only reason he's on his second set is that he had an accident in a race at the Olympic Velo Park in Stratford on the first May day bank holiday weekend and unfortunately his front tubular tyre was ripped off in the accident and the rim took the full impact when it hit the tarmac which resulted in the carbon splitting. This could have happened to any carbon rim and if it would have been a Zipp, it would have been around 800-900 to replace the front alone. We simply bought another ultra light weight tubular set from 2011Cycling2011 three weeks ago and they actually weigh less than the eBay listing states.

These wheels are incredible value for money and are very well made. He raced last year in the BC Youth category and they were fine with no problems at all. At least now he has another spare rear carbon wheel.

Last post from me I promise!

Did my usual Tuesday night chain gang tonight in strong winds and pouring rain. Strong winds were interesting but no problem if you keep your wits about you.

I was expecting no brakes once it started raining heavily but other than the usual few seconds of nothingness as the water clears they weren't much worse than alloy to be honest.

I have been reading this with interest and am eyeing up a set of 50 clinchers.
Couple of questions tho- Should I stick with 23mm or worth going wider? Benefits of both?

Also what hub would be best? They have a few different options and I am clueless on hubs.

What are the new 'U-shape' clinchers? Are these better than the older models?

After I considered the Chinese clinchers, I ended up ordering a pair of 38mm Wheelsmith CC's instead. The spec was for their standard hubs so price as advertised for £740 inc P&P. I settled on the 38mm as I do a reasonable amount of climbing where I live and after 3 rides, I'm not dissapointed. I didn't get chance to weigh them before I mounted them, but their headline weight of 1465-1490g felt pretty accurate ... this was in comparison to my Bontrager RXL wheels I got as standard on the Madone. In terms of weight, the RXL's are around 1510g so are comparative ... I certainly wasn't looking for the lightest aero wheel, just the best aero wheel within my budget.

First impressions are positive ... Wheels took a while to arrive (3 - 4 weeks) as they were v busy and I'd had a card fraud. Arrived via UPS, well packaged and came with a list of do's and don't. Tyres (25mm GP4000s) were a little tricky to mount ... just a very 'snug fit' but pads were a quick job so up and running after that.
Of course, we're not talking night and day but there was certainly a benefit when travelling at a decent pace with no deficit when accelerating. I heard a few 'pings' from the spokes settling in on my first climb but once rolling they seemed as comfortable as the RXL's ... even with a cross wind, the 38mm's aren't large enough to cause you any problems.

The first ride was a short one ... gentle climb and then a decent downhill and the rest flat. Manage to hit an indicated 61.1mph where as my quickest was previously 56mph. Then plenty of flat but I averaged nearly 21mph. Second ride was slightly longer, again quite a bit of flat and averaged just under 20mph. Third ride was 83 miles training in heart rate 2 and 3 so similar effort ... 18mph average as opposed to 16.9 mph average 8 weeks ago (same bike). I know the wheels don't tell the full story but i'm confident that over certain speeds less effort is required at sustaining that speed.

Oh and I think they look superb! ;-)

I still think I'll give the Chinese clinchers a go next time ...

I have had a set of the Farsport 38mm clinchers now for about a year and a half. Have been raced in all conditions with some very gritty wet road races (plenty of training rides when I haven't been bothered to take them off and swap pads) and only just need replacing in the next few months. They have done about 4000-5000 miles now and still perfectly true. I paid £349 all in at the time and they weighed in at 1310 grams.

Just received a pair of 50mm x 23mm clinchers from Farsports...

So far I'm very impressed - service was excellent all the way through even with specific requests along the way, they arrived ahead of time, build quality seems great so far.

I'll update once I've ridden them, but I'm expecting to be just as satisfied!

The pads need replacing or the wheels? Seems like a short life if it's the wheels?

Well first 100km or so done, and so far so good, as I'd hoped.

Although I've not weighed them yet, they appear significantly lighter than the stock Shimano wheels. First impression is that they seem easier to spin up and maintain a pace.

Spoke tensions checked and are spot on by all accounts.

Stiffness is immediately obvious particularly at the rear, but ride is still comfortable even on some of the less forgiving Shanghai streets. No climbing of note yet so I can't comment there.

Braking doesn't seem to quite have the initial bite, but braking performance is still good. I suspect that there might still be some bedding in to be done.

I had the wheels built with DTSwiss 240 Straight Pulls, which are also silky smooth.

But most importantly, the bike looks WAY faster... And certainly way faster than me...

My Far Sports 50mm U 23 arrived last week. I still haven't ridden them yet but am very impressed with the build quality.

With a pair of GP4000S II and Supersonic tubes, they come in at just under 2kg!! Why use tubs??
