If, as with Wilier, the test ride doesn't materialise will you lose interest and spend £20 cleaning the Bianchi?

Seriously though, are there not much better ways of spending that sort of money?

Proper winter bike - 1500
Summer bike (UCI approved of course) - 3000
Aero wheel set - 750

If you loved the Merak why not just get another or something with similar geometry?

Lovely bikes, love the RB1000. But as a said, fitting first - if you are buying from a good LBS fitter and shop, they might refund fit costs above a certain price point (I had retul and follow ups of around 5hrs thrown in with my bike). If they are reputable they won't push the sale but will give you geometry matched bike ideas - it's an expensive mistake if wrong.

As for building a posing bike, why not. Although for the cycling equivalent of sartorial elegance, I must question the pairing of Cipolini and entry level Cosmics. It's like buying a Gucci suit and demanding to see their selection of Crocs to match. Fernwegs for maximum posing points, sell a kid.

Being serious for a moment, Cipo was probably the greatest sprinter of his generation and a real hero of mine from the tough days of sprinting, however i can see his frames being as stiff as a schoolboy on Miami beach.

When people ask about the bike will you say "he was a sprinter from the 90s who won 200 odd races, the worlds, milan-san remo and the sprinters jersey in the giro three times" or "yeah it cost six grand"? Possibly it doesn't matter and you don't care but to me it's like having a huge target on your back!

I had a good look at them when BW had stock and sure they are stunning looking frames but I wouldn't buy one if I had the cash to spare because I know it's going to be too stiff and there are precious few are around, Who knows what the after sales support is like, don't expect Trek-esque standards of service... And what's to say your LBS will still stock such a high end brand in 12 months time given turnover is likely to be low.

A pimped Infinito or R5 makes so much more sense. Both Pro Tour std, not sure why that's relevant?!, both proven, both wider support networks.

Wrong bike for anyone other than an accomplished amateur/pro rider.

I was just emailed about the PX RT-57 for 1200 quid, looks a more rational buy.
You must be new round here. Our Dyzzze doesn't really do rational especially 'value' brands. Somebody mentioned a Bianchi, nope, one of them just about cuts it as a winter hack, as long as nobody sees him on it.

Lots of good sense here. I'm sure you'll ignore it.

I suspect the Trek Domane is probably pretty much perfect for most people so I'd be thinking of one of those for a potter-about touring bike.

Nice bike, quite subtle and stylish, very focused

Not for me, unless I was very loaded and wanted a 4th of 5th bike for occasional focused high speed use.

Everyone has made good points about the Geo and possible lack of aftersales

Plus it is bloody expensive! If I was spending that much I would want a proven after sales and support track record if I was going to put biggish miles on it, unless I was sufficiently wealthy to consider it "disposable" (ie very rich!!)

Not sure I would want the stiffness on our piss poor roads, on smooth circuits in Majorca, Spain and Italy it would be sublime, swerving and bouncing off the holes on the A30 I think not

By all means get it but don't forget you will need the outfit to suit.

He struggles with a shirt, I think a full length skinsuit would be the equivalent of a straight jacket for this man biggrin

IMO a Cippolini deserves a proper high end build, not a 'compromise' of Ultegra etc. (Which is not to say that Ultegra is anything other than massively competent)

Have you considered a high end custom steel/titanium frame? Rourke/Feather etc etc.

Perfect geometry, you can spec the bike exactly as you want and it will be truly be an 'expression' of you want to be perceived on a bike.

Bikeswanky might get him one in, he could rent it then. Actually that might be perfect for our fickle OP

Bonkers.

Or use the standard PH response - get an MX5.

Really, Diz seems to like Aero style frames, so a "steel" or Titaniun build may not be best suggestion. Although, its Dizzee (whom I suspect is really OKGO's alter ego trolling account) so tomorrows thread will be about Passoni. I think deep down he'll want this:

S5 suggestion too ubiquitous.
