Got myself some gloves plus arm and leg warmers. Being a tall, lanky chap I usually have to go for the large sizes and here was no exception. The arm warmers, although only just fitting on the length were hopelessly baggy around the top (no lifting, bro). Had to get my very talented missus take them in a good two inches and now they fit perfectly, wish manufacturers would learn that standardised large sizes don't work if your tall and skinny (other combinations are possible).

Spoke reflectors, £4.99, great sideways visibility and if you do above about 30mph your wheels become discs of light and everyone's like "Whoah!"

I do like those spoke reflectors. Massively uncool but I'm getting some anyway.

Paired with the reflective sidewall strip on some 'commuting' tyres, those spoke reflectors are putting you firmly into "no excuses" territory when it comes to night time 'SMIDSY' situations. I got some from the last time they sold them, not fitted yet, but they're going on the new road bike (when I buy one) for those evening rides after the clocks are changed.

I did my first sportive wearing the compression top under my summer jersey and the winter gloves. Was pretty nippy at the start but did the job and kept me warm.. Gave me enough warmth left in my fingers to deal with the two punctures but didnt help the third total blowout nearly a mile from the finish line!

I've owned 5 Merino Icebreakers since 2000. Pricey but boy they are a huge benefit. I wouldn't buy another brand.
I've a couple of Rapha merino base layers, and they're by far my most worn garment - be it on the bike, or of it during the winter. The most comfortable thing you could wear, and never once even close to scratchy. I suspect it's the other non-merino stuff that's in them.

Yep - off the bike too. I remember when the temp dropped to -17degrees in the Peaks one harsh winter. On the bike with two merino's and a shell over I didn't feel it. Even when my matey's lungs frozen over and he had a sort of asthma attack ('snow lung'). I think I went straight out still wearing those two tops to the pubs that evening too. beer
These Aldi ones are 100% merino. Not scratchy at all (and I'm sensitive to such things).

I wore the arm warmers for the first time yesterday on a short ride out. Do the job just fine.
