Yes, feels like a bit of a noodle when out the saddle on steep climbs, but in a straight line I really can't fault them. I think 24 would be much more sufficient, which is why I'm leaning towards the Enve's, especially as they can reportedly hold a high spoke tension. One thing on my Zipp's is that they can't hold much tension, especially as one of the spokes has slightly pulled through the carbon.

Thanks Rolls, are you built like Froome or Kittel?

Enve 45's here too and 90kg - no problems with wheel flex at all. I'm sure if you speak to some of the more respected wheelbuilders, they'll be able to advise the best hub/rim combo to suit your needs.

Should have said too - wheelsmith built mine! (and of course you'll be wanting CK hubs!)

If you're thinking of selling the Zipps let me know, I'm after some deep wheels ATM and would prefer to buy from a known rather than eBay etc.

I'm running ENVE 6.7s, no issues @ 71kgs (though).

The spoke count is 20/24. Built up on Chris King hubs. Very speedy (subjectively), but finding pad wear an issue. Run them in Mallorca, but nothing overly Alpine yet.

Do they have to be all carbon clinchers?

Am currently contemplating these: http://www.hedwheels.com/proddetail.asp?prod=JET6P...

in a 'Stallion' build which would be 20 / 28 spokes for my svelte 95kg frame.

Or going custom-built with a set of Dura Ace hubs (same rims) as I like the 25mm wide rim and alloy brake track (but not a huge fan of the hubs).

Only down-side is heavier than all carbon (1761g) vs Enve SES 3.4 built up with CK R45s (under 1500g) but would be about £1K cheaper.

I may have accidently just ordered some SES 6.7's after a call with Derek from Wheelsmith who was very knowledgable biggrin

It's going to be a long couple of weeks.

ps. Eddh - surely it's the elbow? wink

First ride on the SES 6.7's last night and I'm speechless to be honest. Vastly stiffer than my old wheels, very noticable both out the saddle and a lot more confidence in fast corners. Oh and they aren't exactly slow either!

Where I was most impressed is the cross wind control. I know reports you read online have raved about the new deep rim profiles on the SES Enve's for being very predictable and far less extreme than rim profiles of old, but I tended to take this with a pinch of salt. How wrong I was. Last nights club ride saw guys running much shallower profiles and they were reporting some noticable movement. A little tickle here and there for me but nothing that moved me more than a few inches across the road. Early days and no serious winds yet, but very very impressive.

Must also give a massive praise for wheelsmith, not only were they a pleasure to deal with, they predicted a 2 week build time and got them to me in under a week (thanks for the recommendation Rolls).

Will pop a picture up shortly as they are pant droppingly good looking wheels smile

I see you have the cash to spend money on Zipps, but... For the sake of +300g, at 70 quid, are expensive delicate wheels really worth it to anyone less than Tony Martin?
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/S...

They are very stiff too, I ride them more than my mavics. I guess its a mindset thing though, they may not feel expensive enough to be good, but they jolly are.
I have a set. They are ok for the money but not great. I bought them to keep my bike build under a grand. I'm convinced they flex a lot as I put down a lot of power and when on rougher surfaces. It probably does not help my frame is rather stiff.

I bit the bullet after all my ruminations and got a set of full carbon clinchers Reynolds Assault SLGs from Athlete Service.

http://www.athleteservice.com/products/reynolds-as...

Really pleased so far, braking is superb (in the dry) and on a par with my alloy clinchers and feel more compliant probably as they're a bit less stiff than my old 32 spoke wheels.

Will see how true they remain with my 95kg weight, how long the spokes last for and how the braking goes in the wet. So far so good and running well with a set of 25mm Michelin Pro 4 Service Course tyres.

Great price (over 20% off RRP) and service from Athlete Service BTW - free next day postage and were a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!
