Well here it is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4nBjcM1xko&fe...

...I may remove it later.

Edited to add...

This chap pulled out of a blind driveway taking all of the footpath. No issue there but he looked straight at me and continued on to the road. I almost think this guy drove at me intentionally but chances are he either failed to see me, failed to notice I was doing over 20mph and thought he'd have enough time to pull out or is just an idiot.

Given his choice of vehicle I'm more convinced of the latter.

Still nice of him to do such a poor job overtaking later. I would have shrugged my shoulders and thought "we all make mistakes" but that maneuver was the straw.

It's been too hot and I'd rather not contend with "weekend" traffic in my car let alone on my bike. A little cooler today so I have my top secret pasta and hi-viz kit ready to go.

I timed out yesterday. I have a strict deadline to setting off for work and I over ran by one minute due to a phone call.

Today looks interesting. On tree is leaning over due to the wind and one next to is barely has a leaf out of place. SHould be fun. Also it's Time Trial Tuesday so as well as the usual Darwinist's I encounter in their cars I'll also have a few Lycraists to mess with. hehe

I was knocked off last night.

On Lynn Road, Wisbech's 50mph zone I was hit in the arm by the mirror from a dark blue, 53-reg, Peugeot 307SW with blacked out windows.

My arm feels like I've done too many bicep curls but I twisted my back on the way down and am stiff as a board.

It was a hit and run and I'm more annoyed I didn't get the whole plate than anything else. furious

The thing that got me was I was overtaken safely by an Astra, Corsa then hit. So the driver must have seen the other cars move out of the way, the driver must have seen me in my neon orange and yellow outfit. I have a couple of theories.

1/ He deliberately hit me. There was no hesitation as he ran.
2/ He's one of an increasing number of wkers on the road who overtake cyclists as close as possible as if it's a sport.

Either way it's Careless/Dangerous Driving and Leaving the scene of a collision.

Anyway I've started this thread...

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

...to help others be aware of trouble spots and troublesome drivers.

I have another theory...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4nBjcM1xko

...the first time I wore my neon orange t'shirt that near miss and poor attempt of intimidation happened. The second time I was hit. I think I need to stop wearing that t'shirt on my bike as it was raining this morning I wore my yellow jacket over it and nothing happened at all. scratchchin

Yesterday evening I waited in a layby near the collision from 18:03 to 18:22 and there was no sign of the 307 but at ten minutes past six a Police van went by, turned around at the end of the road and came back. cop

It could and probably is nothing, the 307 driver left work early or late maybe had to stop somewhere and our paths didn't cross or he knew someone would be looking out for him and he took a different route. Who knows?

Anyway, I'm just back from giving my statement and the officer will be reviewing the towns CCTV to see if the 307 can be identified. From there the driver will be pursued with a view of Careless Driving and Leaving the Scene. Hopefully they'll get a result before anything else happens. smile

As I'm banned from my Anti-knob Good Deeds thread, I'd like to thank the woman in the Q5 for stopping and offering to help and the Cambridgeshire Police for all their efforts result or not.

Today I was cycling to meet my nephew and ride to school together. It was perfect, clear blue sky, chill in the wind, sun on my back and as I wasn't going to work I was in a good mood for a change.

Until...

Facebook post said:
Man in a scruffy, battered white glassier's van (reg-AO 06 ***) nearly knocked me off my bike on Station Road at 07:45 this morning. He didn't like the hand gesture I made in my defense so he turned around African Violet drive came back towards me crossed over to my side of the road leaning out of the driver window shouting...

"Why am I a F%$&ING W@*KER?"

...if you have to ask like that you don't need an answer it's what we call a self fulfilling prophecy. I then stopped and waited at the end of Station Road to apologise but I didn't get chance as he was having a serious mental break down.

1/ If you don't like being called a wker; don't drive like one.

2/ If your fuse is that short that you threaten to kill someone the next time you see them on the road you will get yourself hurt.

3/ If you drive with a hair trigger like that in a 3.5 Ton van with no seat belt or any idea how to drive at all you will get someone else hurt or killed.

If anyone in the village knows who this driver is whatever the underlying issue is he needs to talk to someone about it. The only reason I'm posting this here and not reporting it to the Police is because he needs help. I have the whole reg but I won't post it all on here as it could be misused.
...a simple hand gesture triggered a foaming foul mouth threats to kill and some of the worst driving I have ever seen.

I was still in a good mood and continued to meet my nephew. We had to stop a few times on the way to school. At the top of a hill (hump back bridge from my Scrubs clip), just before crossing the main road (to ensure he was rested and would tackle it properly with a clear unfatigued head) and outside the school instead of filtering through traffic or riding on the path. smile

Apart from the perpetuation of the white van man stereotype it was a good morning. smile

Just about to pick up a trailer for my bike. I don't need to carry anything in it but it will act as a barrier to avoid another hit and run like Tuesday.

There is a section that is like running a gauntlet but most of the time it's fine.

I do have an annoying habit of focusing on the negative though.

This morning was really nice apart from the one guy complete lost it over a in my opinion deserved hang gesture. It was obviously the straw that broke that camels back and I could have dealt with it a lot better.

I feel really bad for the guy.

One of the best rides I've had in ages this morning. It was only four miles, I wasn't setting any record times; the destination was more important than the journey.

I've bought another Panda to keep my green one company. smile

28' wheels were tricky to get in the back compared to the last time I loaded a Panda I had 26's and the tailgate shut. Luckily I was prepared and blue bungees did the job.

So my back is feeling a lot better and I've been doing a spot of shopping.

I decided against the Go-Pro for two reasons.

1/ It's expensive and I'll be knocked off my bike so I can be mugged (just like the old thread).
2/ It's overkill and knee jerk reaction to having my lower spine jerked. wink

I picked up a £30 "Kitvision" "Escape" camera from Tesco. It comes with a waterproof case bar mounts, looks the business and is as good as my old camera. Best of all for £30 I won't mind being mugged as much. wink

I have come up with a solution to a few problems.

1/ Having work clothes that look presentable.
2/ Having a sweaty back due to my rucksack for the first hour at work. Bleaugh!
3/ Ensuring safer (in theory) overtaking.

With an Erde cargo trailer...

...with a little chevron from these guys...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180349339194?_trksid=p20...

...and some left over tape I'm ready for the most doltish desperadoes out there.

Sorry, but do you actually have a life outside posting details of your biking mishaps, spending hours looking for false identities of cars for sale and other such things? Your so-called web site doesn't exist, you seem to be preoccupied with complaining and talking about your Pandas and your American X1/9, but where oh where are there posts about actually living?

If there is one thing I like about your posts is that they avoid the need for sleeping pills.

Good evening.

I haven't added anything to this thread for a fortnight as I haven't commuted to work on my bike and there hasn't been anything to post. Glad I've been missed. rolleyes

As for having a life? My Mother was diagnosed with Cancer last week, the company I work for has been sold so the Sword of Damocles is hanging over everyone's jobs again, my ex' invited me to her wedding and I've managed to have some fun as well.

Thank you for asking. smile

Yesterday I was running a little late and set off without checking my tyres. A few corners later I needed to stop and get some air in them where the bikes been stood a few weeks they'd gone down a bit.

In the meantime someone had borrowed my pump and left the connector the wrong way round. I was in too much of a hurry and forgot to check and snapped the valve.

Bugger! rolleyes

Run home, got changed, got in my car and drove to work.

Today I've given the bike pre-flight checks and am about to set off early due to what sounds like a gale force headwind. yikes

That was hilarious.

Whoever thought towing a trailer with a bicycle would be anything less than a complete unmitigated disaster has an evil sense of humor.

Anything more than ten miles per hour and it bounces around like a fat bloke Zorbing. Anything resembling an average pot hole is enough to tip the trailer on one wheel for a good few seconds. I thought it was going to flip several times.

I just went to the shop and couldn't risk buying beer. frown

There's no way my laptop or anything worth while will be safe in the thing so it's back on eBay and the camping trip is canceled. At least I now know all the times I suggested a slightly flat tyre felt like I was towing something I was right. wink

Back to the rucksack tomorrow. smile

What a perfect morning. Moody sunrise behind me, dark enough to have my lights on, chill in the humid air and enough breeze to notice but not hinder my journey at all.

Good thirty six minute run into work and even though it was bloody hot and a sea breeze head or three quarter headwind it was equally as nice a ride home.

My new camera worked a treat but nothing unusual happened so there's no clip to add.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow as there's hardly anyone about at half five on a Sunday morning. smile

Another really nice ride this morning. As predicted there were only three cars the whole journey. Pretty sunrise, chill in the air and a tiny breeze. The ride home was a little hectic. Tailwind for the first two thirds and a wall of a three quarter headwind the rest of the way. Still managed a good thirty two minutes and hopefully my good mood will continue in the morning. Monday traffic after a barbecue weekend so I wouldn't hold my breath either. wink

This morning was hot, humid and horrid; but I didn't let it get me down and my commute passed without major incident.

The ride home was disappointing and spectacular in equal measure.

Disappointing as I was supposed to rain and because it didn't it was bloody hot, humid but a very nice consistent tail wind.

Spectacular? Thirty minutes and three seconds. woohoo

I will break into the twenty nines.

I've just been dragged around town. rolleyes

Including Lidl. frown

Then I spotted the last pair of these...

...they clip and strap on your cycling or running shoes and depending on how big your feet are the reflector goes up front or outside...

...and the heel section is illuminated by red LED's.

Brilliant idea, £5.99 each and a three year warranty. bow

The cloudier mornings are dark enough for lights now so these will come in hands very soon. smile
