Right, the PH 2014 cycling weekend sadly never went ahead. So, why don't as many of us as possible do the Circuit Breaker Sportive? It is on 25th October and starts and finishes at Silverstone - a fitting venue for us all, resplendent in our PH cycling jerseys!

http://www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/events/wiggle-cir...

It requires zero organisation from anyone, no minimum or maximum numbers, is pretty central to England (Scotland may have border controls come October anyway wink ) and is a good rolling route.

Pablo, MadDad and I did it last year in the most horrendous wind so surely, the weather this year MUST be better....

I'm going to sign up regardless (if my wife allows) so if anyone else fancies it, let's start a list!

Loads of us now have jerseys so lets show them off and get a Smilie peloton going biggrin

Yes. You then ride around the roads around the circuit and out into Northamptonshire. Unfortunately, you don't go around the track as I thought last year frown

Don't say that, not after the argument I've just got in to on the other thread! hehe

What argument? wink

P.S. I never entered the ballot or paid for my charity place. I have raised £865 so not bad for my first fund raising since being 11 years old.

Last years event was great despite the wind (the day before the UK hurricane was forecast) - nice rolling route, good atmosphere and nice venue!

I should be signing up again this year as long as hwmbo stamps my leave pass......

I think he's on about me!

wavey

But I think we've agreed to disagree and stopped it from becoming another 'helmets' debate

This sounds like a decent idea, meeting at an existing event, each under their own steam. It's a shame the 'Weekender' didn't happen this year, but I'd certainly be up for something like this. It might encourage me to sign up for an organised event at last, as I've never committed to one before. Who knows? Maybe it'll spur me on to sort a new road bike out before season's end. (probably not, though, as the last new road bike took 18 months to choose and buy wink )

Yeah that's pretty pricey for a free energy gel and a free t shirt I won't wear.

I dont get this whole "why pay to ride on open roads" argument, if i dont pay to ride sportives, I wont ride anywhere other than roads within 50 miles or so of Bristol. Whilst the roads of Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire are fairly comparable, they are new places to ride and I like riding in new places.

There are local sportives to Bristol where I will quite happily download gpx routes and ride them in my own time but usually sportives are good routes on quieter roads that non-locals probably wouldnt find so I dont mind paying.

If anyone needs somewhere to stay the night before, Steve and I stayed at the Premier Inn in Daventry last year which was about 20 minutes away by car and had a pub next door.
