M3John, Jason and I are all in the Travelodge too. Might make some of the Team Sky rice cake for the ride. Swapsies?

They sound quite nice.

Can they be made without a rice cooker though? My rice cooker is a pan of boiling water, I'm not entirely sure what a rice cooker is type

So.....just out of curiosity....what sort of speeds are people doing over longish distance? I'm currently doing ~17mph over 50 moderately hilly miles. I'm a bit scared of getting dropped as it's my first large group ride.

This was my effort last year, but it was horrifically windy;

Nice run MD, I am now following you! Where do find the time for the miles you do?!

Thanks, reciprocated!! Being 'between contracts' this year has helped, that said last year I just rode in the dark a lot!!

Agreed, I need to maintain the summer momentum. If I can keep 100km a week up during winter then I should crack 5500-6000km for the year.

Good lights and kit assist in night rides as does a riding buddy!

Let me get this weekend done at Box Hill and then I will work on a pass for Silverstone!

In addition to lights and kit you need a steely determination to ride, there were nights when I came home from work when it was pi@@ing down with rain and the easy thing would have been to grab a cuppa and watch the box - the most rewarding thing is to tog up and go to battle with the elements!!

With regards to speed, I think there will be enough of us to have a fast and faster group (this is PH, we don't do slow).

I averaged just less than 16mph last year but would like to beat that this time.

Just following up on this - I'm booked, in the travelodge and on the 84 mile ride. Probably won't make dinner on the friday night - I'll be coming up late I think - so will meet you first thing on the Saturday.

The way the weather's just turned - I doubt there'll be many PH jerseys on show...I'll be in full on winter mode by then I fear biggrin

Looking forward to it (though not the drive home on Saturday evening)
