So, I'm thinking of what to upgrade the Boardman Team FS when that eventually dies. I'd like an Enduro type bike, but I'd really like to support a British manufacturer (no matter how sexy a Mondraker Foxy or the like look!).

Currently I have on a 'potentials' list:
Nukeproof (Mega AM)
Orange (Alpine 160 AM)
Gary Fisher?
On One (Codine?)
Pace (RC506)
Whyte (Gravity G150)

What else am I missing? I am, however, conforming to the PH standard of looking like a shaven bear, whilst holding multiple cans of red bull, and throwing company directorships around (I think that's the right way round), so I am after something that is built for the larger/slower gent...

Thanks in advance.

ETA: Just realised that production of these has moved to Penistone in South Yorkshire which is just round the corner from me! I want one now!

Currently I have on a 'potentials' list:
Nukeproof (Mega AM) - Taiwan
Orange (Alpine 160 AM) - UK
Gary Fisher? - Extinct US brand
On One (Codine?) - Taiwan
Pace (RC506) - Taiwan
Whyte (Gravity G150) - Taiwan

You're "limited" (such hardship!) to Cotic and Orange, off the top of my head.

Ah! Thank you - I was wondering if UK company meant UK built or not...

That now becomes a dilemma. Hopefully the Boardman holds together for a while longer then.... give more companies to go full UK.

Thanks Bobbo as well - much appreciated.

Whyte makes a bit of a thing about their "Designed in the UK", even to the point of splashing all over their bikes. Certainly they are a UK company but the frames are definitely built in Taiwan, and I'm fairly sure the whole bikes are assembled there too.

Here's a wildcard option for you:

Empire Cycles MX6 Evo

On my list of potentials if I ever get the desire to swap from the stereotypical middle aged Five (even though it's made in Lancashire instead of The Correct Side Of The Hill).

I admire your desire to 'go Brit' but it's going to be hard work.

An off the shelf bike might have a UK built frame, and if it's very high-end a few Hope bits - but the shock will be made in the far east, so will all the controls, the forks, the rims etc etc etc.

Even some of the frames that are reported to be made in the UK (or anywhere else outside of the far east for that matter) will be constructed from pre-formed tubing made in Taiwan.

In that case it might just have to be a British company, rather than the full monty. Shame...

Pace cycles, made in the North York Moors. Never ridden one but they look excellent in the shop at Dalby Forest!

Problem is if you want an enduro bike from the UK that limits you to Orange, Cotic and Empire.

Or speak tot he guys at BTR if you want a shed made bike but great none the less

Orange FS bikes deisgned and manufactured in UK, hardtails designed in UK maunfactured in Asia for clarification.

Had a couple of Oranges now, rock solid stuff, only component failures (Taiwanese stuff not the Hope stuff) BTW

There are some new guys on the block based near where i ride.

http://shop.birdmtb.com

While not manufactured in the UK, it was UK designed and only sold by the company directly.

I know the cool kids on BikeRadar hate them, but I'd struggle not to buy an Orange in your position. One of their British built bikes will certainly be my next.

That said, I love the Cotic's, something about them that oozes appeal to me and I haven't had a steel bike in many years.

Has to be Orange surely.

Aren't Renthal bars, maybe stems too, made in the UK?

I'm all for going British designed and where posibile built. But when you compare an Orange 5 with a decent spec against Zee German Y T Industries stuff it's very hard to not change your pounds for Euros. Serious bits of kit at a bargain price.

Just my thoughts.
