Guys,
Looking for some new shoes - sticking with flat pedals for the moment.
Will be getting either a pair of Superstar Nano's, Nukeprook Eelctrons or Wellgo MG1's to replace my current 'cheap' flat pedals.

So shoes - budget is around £50.

So far looked at the Shimano AM41's and Teva Links.

Like the look of the Teva's as they look a bit more sturdy.

Any other recommendations?

I'll be following this thread as I'm in the market for some flat pedal shoes around the same price.

I always use Five Ten impacts which are really, really good, problem is they are £90.00, if you can stretch you budget then go for these. I need some occasional shoes I can leave at a holiday home, so don't really want to buy a second pair of Five Tens.

My missus loves her Links. Well made and don't end up taking an age to dry.

Wearing a set of 5-10 Freerider Elements myself. A bit more insulation from the standard ones to keep my toes nice and snug. Working well with a set of Nanos. They cost be around £70 but well worth the extra

I like the Links, very comfortable and pretty hard wearing compared to Five Tens and can usually be found much cheaper!

Teva are leaving the MTB shoe market, but you can still pick them up in some styles/sizes it seems.

If you can't get hold of Links (look good, but I've never tried them), then it's another vote for Five Tens I'm afraid.

With V8/V12 they really are excellent and the only reason I eventually switched to SPDs was for the extra uphill grunt, not for any want of grip/control downhill.

I'm on my second pair of Links, it's a crying shame they've pulled out - you rarely see them so I guess they weren't big sellers.

The coating they use make them brilliantly water-sort-of-proof without making them too hot to wear.

They are genuinely the most comfortable footwear I have ever owned, not most comfortable riding shoes - THE most comfortable things I've ever put on my feet.

They last - really last, 2 years of 52 weeks a year riding - try that in a pair of 5.10's with their 2mm of sole glued to a foam base.

Admittedly they don't grip as well as 5.10s maybe 80% as good - but it's enough for DH on stty wet days and it means that you can turn your foot if you misplace it without having to lift and re-plat like 5.10's.

Cheers guys.
Have tracked down a pair of Teva's which I'll probably give a go.

I missed this thread and after a few days of pondering and reading reviews, I've just ordered a pair of Teva Links.
I did have my heart set on a pair of FiveTen Freerider VXi Elements (Dawn Blue / Pewter) but couldn't find my size in-stock, or for less than £85.

The Teva's were ordered for £50. Will let you know my thoughts when they arrive.

Hoping for a good improvement over my completly ancient and worn-out Vans skate shoes which I currently use on my MTB with DMR V12's.

Swap your V12s for Nanos or something similar. Grip is on another level.

That said my old V12s are on the wife's bike now and have run for 3 years without a hiccup and without needing to be touched at all.

Where did you order your Teva's from?

Bit late for OP but my 5.10s have always been sorted in terms of a fairly stiff sole and loads of grip.

Waiting for my impacts to wear out (4 years) before I get some freerider elements.

Teva's arrived yesterday, going for a ride tonight so will see how they go.

Think I'm gonna change the laces for the black ones though - the blue is a touch bright!

I like them! And infact I was just about to bag a pair from JE James too...

...Untill I noticed they only have kids sizes left :P

Time for a rethink (or a foot shrink!)
