Theres a 15% off discount code for Homebase, valid from Saturday to Monday (ie, not yet). Unsure if it will work on the bike or just "DIY"-type products. Worth a go, and would bring the price back down to £425 if it works:

Should be. That's what I ordered.. er.. twice.

I just need to see what actually turns up. Are you prepared to collect from Burton on Trent? ...I assume you'll pay the £400! smile

You have 2nd refusal after a mate at work.

I might arrange some kind of courier as I'm in South Wales and things are a bit busy at the mo, but I'm up for that. Let me know.

Well, this has turned into a right bloomin saga for me and my brother!

We reserved 2 for store pick up last Friday at the price of £399. Argos then ran out of stock and put the price up to £499, absolute sharks.

Proceeded to buy one form the Homebase website yesterday for £399. The order went through, got my email confirmation, delivery for Thursday and they took the money from my account. I rang them as well to confirm that everything was ok with the order.

Got a phone call this morning from Homebase apologising because they have no stock and I won't get the bike!!!! It begs the question, if they have no stock, why have they increased the price?

We still have the bikes on reserve at Argos. Apparently their T&Cs state that you have to pay the store price on pick up. After speaking to the girl from Homebase yesterday she told me that 9 times out of 10 they will honour the price it was reserved at as long as you take the email confirmation with you.

So last chance saloon with Argos this Friday, not holding much hope out, stick with my trusty hybrid.

I'm beginning to think this has been some sort of elaborate hoax!

All this in/out of stock stuff suggests that someone in management f##ked up. They had all these bikes laying around the warehouse that no-one was buying because, really, no-one buys an £800 bike from Argos. So someone said "sod it, 50% off, let's just get rid of them" and now they've realised that cyclists have an eye for a bargain they're trying to get as much as they can for them.

Cheeky, but you can't really blame them.

Worth persevering if you can get hold of one.

Mine after a shakedown ride around Beachy Head minus 1 kilo after swapping parts over from my now winter alu Giant. Rides like a proper bike shocker!!

What he said, I'm well pleased with mine at £399.

I reserved to pick up at argos and must admit fully expected to turn up only to be told some gaff, was pleasently surprised it was there. I even said to her indoors I might even just get some vouchers for complaining if they didn't have it.

Can I just ask when you reserved yours and did you pay in full when you reserved on line?

Looks very nice indeed!
Are you going to keep the Sora 9-speed on it?

Yes for now, works perfectly fine. Will want a 28 sprocket for the alps trip next year though so will use that as an excuse to upgrade then I expect. Racing 5 has 11 speed freehub.

I received an email from Argos this afternoon saying my reservation was ready to pick up despite being told that the reservation number they sent me wasn't valid. So there may or may not be one in the Prescot Argos store.

Anyway, after what somebody said earlier about ordering from Homebase and being told there was no stock, I rang them and they confirmed my order had been picked and would be delivered tomorrow and I managed to get it before they bumped up the price. Definitely put me off Argos for life haha

I reserved on Thursday, but didn't pay anything until I picked up Monday night
