Too old at 33? Are you being serious?

Some of the best racers I know are late thirties early 40's. I raced with a chap who is still up there in elite races, he's 51. 90kg is easily sorted if you want to.

Genuine lol at the above!

fair play for even having a go at racing smile

I might have a go at cyclocross racing one day but I think at 33 and generally 90kg, I'm too fat and old for proper road racing.
I'm 35 lol and doing a CX season this year. I know people in their 50's who frankly if they wanted, I wouldn't see which way they went.
When I started riding I couldn't keep up with a guy in his 70's!

You're nowhere near too old and if 90kg is big for you - then it will drop off fast lol

Here's a question for you Rob, what's the weight range like for racers in the higher cats? Is there a big difference between the mountain goats and the sprinters?

Great result yesterday btw.

It's quite a spectrum to be fair. But I would say most guys you see are around 70kg +/-5 either way. There are a few exceptions of course; people like Wouter Sybrandy (who I got a nice tow off yesterday) are tall and probably 80kg or so. Then there are people like James Lewis from nfto who must be nearly 100kg but has a huge amount of power. And plenty of very thin guys down around 60kg, but it doesn't usually help on uk circuits to be that thin. Climbs not long enough. Sprinters are quite varied, chap who beat me yesterday probably under 70kg but has big kick and is very short, Cav esque build, helps dodge the wind.

I know I didn't ask the question, but that's useful info and gives me somewhere to aim for weight wise.

Don't you have a crit racing blog? Could you post up the link.

At present I know I'm not fast enough, but I know i have more in me and if I join a club that should help the speed.

I'd love to have a go at bike racing one day.

That's useful, cheers! I'd already set 75 kgs as my next target (77 kgs at the mo) so I'll stick to that. I'm never going to be a mountain goat but it's good to know I'll be in the right range. Just need the lungs to match now. biggrin

No baker street, it covers everything. I'm probably a better time trailer than racer anyway. Details at top of the page.

Yes Ponk, it's not the end of the world, bigger guys can get round flatter stuff just fine. I never got below 76kg probably 78-79 again now anyway.
