nice enough , good on people who have them and enjoy them

I wouldn't get one even if I could afford/justify it, too much on a bike...but 20k on 5-10 bikes is another story:P

My last memory of a guy on a Venge, was a rather stout guy on a sportive, had a lovely bike and had "matching" specialized lycra, was quite a sight. It was his first "big" ride out and I was in a group with him, he was asking his mates everything, beauties included:
"Can I use both brakes at once"
"DO you think my saddle is too high"
"I'm staying on the top ring on EVERY hill"
Etc
We then pulled into the first feed stop, we all stopped, then the inevitable thud and crash as he did not unclip at all, let alone in time...

His wife came and picked him up at the 2nd food stop as it looked like rain.

Great bike, good on him for getting such a nice first bike, but it was a bit comedy at times.

You did notice its not a Venge? It looks like a Shiv TT, I think (graphics making it a little difficult to tell). There is a tasty BAUM in gulf colours out there too, (if motorsport colour tie-ins are you're thing):

You can even get a Colnago with Ferrari stickers (ironically made in Taiwan), but this will be available to the masses (not boutique).

I'd like to think you get something special for the £20k (sticking on Fernwegs and claiming special edition doesn't count)? Is the Mclaren Venge noticibly lighter or stiffer? I think I remember a claimed weight of 950gr for frame, but thats quite heavy compared to other aero framesets (now).

Is it? I don't think many aero frames are sub 1kg. Not that it makes any odds of course.

Not really, because 2-300 grams can be done easily at the wheels - assuming money is no object (£20k Venge) -

Anyway, Aero-ish claimed frameweights:

Parlee ESX is 900gr (and it’s a bit of a brute)
Dogma F8 – 850gr
Colnago V1-r 835gr
Cervelo R5 (808gr)
Storck Aernario (790gr)
Madone 7 (730gr)

All the above are “Aero”ish in one form or another, Squoval, Kamm Tailed or other windy yaw angled science stuff optimised (depends on you’re view of aero I guess). You might expect the Mclaren to weigh about 5kgs with Aero wheels (like a Fascenario which is about 5.5 fully built on Obermeyers for a mere snip @ £14k)

I don't think any of those are actually aero. They may be more aero then their peers. But that doesn't make them "aero".

Well, maybe the F8.

Yes, agreed. I was talking about the Cervelo s series, Aeroad canyon, giant propel etc.

Anyway, that doesn't matter smile

IMHO - the Madone above the F8 (and even Cervelo claim Squoval is aero). For 2/3 yr old design, it has (in my opinion) the most "all-round" aero design - its Kamm tail and that's now cropping up on more frame designs. Sure the traditional thought re Aero bikes is slab sided / very narrow; but how much time do you really spend riding directly into wind. Are Firecrests / Smart ENVE system non Aero?

Anyway, what is isnt aero is a whole other thread - just regards to cost and weight still struggling to see where the 20k goes on a Mclaren Venge?

It is, an early one, 2013 module by the look of it. The down tube doesn't look anywhere big enough to take a bladder which is why I thought it was the Transition.
Anyhow, buying a bike to hang on the wall? Not my thing but each to their own.

There's a thread on Weight Weenies by the bloke who owned this frame - loads of before, during and after pics.

My mate has a Ristretto in build at the moment, due mid to end September.

I was a bit sceptical of them whilst veiwing on a screen but seeing them in the flesh at the Hand Built Bike Show they are truly stunning.

I haven't got a clue whether it's a venge or not. Frankly I am nit really bothered. Just commenting that I thought the colour scheme was bad ass.
