Cyclocross bike c£1500
Discussion
So, not wishing to trash my roadbike over the winter but want to get some serious miles in rather than my usual 10 - 15 miles on my MTB, have decided to look at getting a Crosser (N plus 1 and all that). I live on the edge of Salisbury Plain so plenty of gravel tracks that the Army have kindly laid out for us cyclists (and the occasional Tank). Been looking at the Canyon offerings, may as well keep my stable consistent, but these are currently out of stock. Also looked at the On-One Pickenflick, lots of reviews earlier this year and seemed like great value for a Ti frame but cannot find them for sale anywhere. One final point, need one for me (6'1") and one for her (5'6") so need appropriate sizes.
So, what does the wisdom or PH recommend?

Seems like a sensible use of a CX bike, although I would question whether you need to go to the edge of your budget?
There are plenty of really good CX and CX-style bikes to be had for less.
Verenti Substance at Wiggle for 600 - only 9-speed, but mech discs and Sora is nice stuff these days
PX Kaffenback, 10-speed Tiagra for 850
boardman CX Comp, 9-speed for 600, looks good.
What I would do though is get a Planet X carbon CX disc frameset, Gevenalle Hydraulic drop levers/discs, have a handbuilt disc wheelset built up, use a Shimano 10-speed groupset, cheaper the better, and Robert est ton oncle. That is an utterly perfect set up (for me anyway!)

Perfect terrain for a CX bike.
Planet X XLS as mentioned, or Boardman CXR - not the Halfords one, this one: http://www.boardmanbikes.com/cx/cxr90.html

Canyon site now has the 2015 bikes available to order but no delivery until late November http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=36...

I have the XLS. I bought mine when it was £1k. Its £1099 now. The wheels are pretty heavy and the cable routing is a bit of mess, but they are at least all internal. Planet X XLS as mentioned, or Boardman CXR - not the Halfords one, this one: http://www.boardmanbikes.com/cx/cxr90.html
Mounting mud guards is really difficult because of the cable routing. In fact, I've failed to come up with any suitable solution...
I'm not even sure if they offer my colour scheme any more, but here it is after this year's London To Brighton.

Overall, I really like it. Great for commuting and the occasional tow path. Forget buying XLS for lightness. The ali frame from Rose isn't much heavier!
I was going to race it this year, but new kitchen and baby on the way now means that might have to wait till next year
