Rear light, I use http://four4th.co.uk/products/lights/scorpion/
There are cheaper alternatives, but it is noticeable.

Jacket, I'm aiming to get http://road.cc/content/news/108514-sugoi%E2%80%99s...

Additionally I'm after an all purpose lightweight jacket of sort. some degree of water resistance would be great so that I can use it in the rain, a hood would be nice too. Something casual enough that I could also use as a normal jacket.
Vupline are good for this. Sport Pursuit has a sale on.

I'm after a rear light 'to be seen' as I commute around greater london. Ideally something from halfords as I can get a friends&family discount. Can anyone suggest any? I already own a topeak light for the front which I'm more then happy with.
My initial thoughts were getting a Knog Blinder1 rear due to their compact size and its something you can just strap onto the seat post, or chuck into your pocket.

My only concern with the Knog is some people seem to say it sometimes comes off without reason.
Halfords might have 3 for 2 in store on cycling accessories, the knog can also be had in a four led version, not quite as small but a good light, you do have to make sure the strap is properly connected or the metal part of the strap won't lock into place properly,The other advantage is that no lead is needed for charging, the USB is built into the light.

Lenzyne zecto drive might also be worth considering, brighter with day setting, side visibility and charge indicator.

Moon Shield 60 (or at least the Aero Shield 60) are currently available at Planet X for only £17.99! Great price for a fantastic rear light.

^ All these jackets look daft to me. I've got abit of a belly on me so would look ridiculous wearing one. Ontop of that they do not look that casual for my liking.

As for the lights, something small i can slip into my pocket that's good enough for being seen.

Having been commuting mainly through city centre and suburban streets for around 3 years now, I've decided being seen by other road users is preferable to looking cool. Especially in winter.

Some excellent suggestions and examples.

This. A cycling jacket is a functional piece of equipment that serves a purpose, I'd rather have one that does it's job than looks good at the pub. I can't say I'd really want to spend much time socialising in my cycling jacket either - it's full of stale sweat and covered in road grime.

I'd also concur that buying a good light is worthwhile. I went down the cheap route when I started out and I now have a lights graveyard in my garage of significant size. If you do want to go cheap these are great, but be warned the mounting bracket is not great and requires regular tightening, they are retina burning though : http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/LIPHBPDRL/phaart-blee...

Whatever light you get, can I suggest you have at least 2 rear lights. There's nothing worse than commuting home in the dark, turning the rear light on when you leave work only to find by the time you get home it's run out of battery. Leaves you thinking how long you've been riding like that for! Personally I have one on flashing and one on constant

I also have one of the Lidl £3 LED hanging lights on my jacket after I lost a back light once on an A road. They seem to go two seasons on a battery and you can never have too many lights if you ride out of town smile

Or in town.

Seriously for the level of risk we as cyclists take on riding to work some cyclist dont half act like they're invincible.
