Hired one on holiday in Kos last week. At 8 Euros/day it was worth a punt having never had a go on one before. After a bit of deliberation between SWMBO and myself we dived in. Glad we did to, 26 miles later it was returned with elation and slightly sore posteriors.

On the whole the experience was brilliant, you can really power along. It was probably most fun for me, because I was steering biggrin

Had one back in the sixties - great fun! biggrin

I keep trying to get my brother out on one of my bikes, but he is unsure/reluctant to do so due to an inner-ear/balance problem that crops up from time-to-time. He did mention that he'd give it a go on a tandem but, having three bikes already, two more biggrin would be a space problem.

More 'thinkage is required. scratchchin

We just bought one to see if we would like it. My other half is not that confident a cyclist but so far it's been a lot of fun. It's easy to talk to each other on a tandem whereas on two separate bikes it can be difficult. The biggest problem is the space that they take up - ours is 2.4m long, and it doesn't fit in the shed. Fortunately we have an old VW that we can transport it in but if we really like it I would like to get one that folds a bit.

I'd love a go on one but SWMBO has told me that it'll never happen hehe

In my experience, they're fairly novel for a little while, but then they get boring.

Never tried one but fancy giving it a go. Much as I'd like to cycle along staring at the wifes arse I think I'd have to go in front as surely you wouldn't feel in control at the back, and the Mrs would have to go on the front a well for the same reason, so not sure it would work too well biggrin

Did you try the back seat? Do you feel out of control and keep wanting to wrench the bars round?

I bought one for 400 quid from an online cycle shop just to try it. At the time I was fairly fit and cycled a fair bit but my wife didnt so it helped even things out.

Didnt get to use it as much as we'd hoped as it is hard to transport but when we use it, its great. With an average cyclist behind you you can cover more ground than you would on your own (within reason). Even with my 10 year old on the back you could feel an assist on the hills! Good fun and definitely a nice thing to do as a couple.

Yes. After an hour of riding my arms were absolutely aching from subconsciously trying to keep balance as I would in the front seat.

My missus sits behind me and just pedals without holding on to anything most of the time. She isn't too confident when we start going down hill but she is learning to trust me a bit more so I'm sure that we will get there. I'm not sure that I would like to be the stoker (getting the lingo!) but our relative heights mean that I will always be in front on this bike. There is a place in East London that hires them out, not sure the name of it but if you are in this part of the world and want to give it a try it could be worth a look.

Try racing them, racing them on a velodrome is something else. Riding them on the road watch out for mini roundabouts, they are long and it's easy to clip. Off road they are a riot as well, until you crash then it's usually big. Not done much piloting, but been happy stoking, think turbo trainer with a mate sat up front to yell at.

We rented one on honeymoon. The main problems we found were that the cranks weren't lined up properly, so we were out of sync, and she kept steering my arse.

Oh, and the fact I cruise at a cadence of 90 ish, and she thought her legs would fall off at that speed.

If we were to buy one, she'd need to learn to ride a road bike first.
