I'll be doing the viking challenge on Sunday, and as it has now been confirmed that the route is exactly the same as last year I figured it would be a good opportunity to use virtual partner to *smash last year's time.

Having never used this function before, I'm getting a little lost sorting it out.

Last year's effort has long since been deleted from the device (705) memory, so I have downloaded a the gpx file from my Strava.

This is where I'm getting stuck. Where do I store that file on the device, and then how do I use it as a virtual partner?

  • by smash, taking a few minutes off will do biggrin😀

Not sure where you put the file but have used Virtual Partner on my Garmin Forerunner. It splits the screen with you on top and the VP below. If you are ahead it has a white background for you and a distance you are ahead, if you're behind your background is black. Very clear and very simple - should use it more!

Before you download the course it will allow you to set the average speed.
That define pace of the virtual partner
I think that is a different function, certainly on my Forerunner. Virtual Partner files are actual routes I have done, or someone else has, so I can try and beat my previous best over a course. Unless you can plot a route, including setting a pace, and use that as well?

I don't have a new files folder.

I've put it in Courses hoping that will allow me to use it.

I'll have a play later and report back biggrin

So I have the file in Courses.

How do I ride against that time?

If I go through: Where to > Courses the file is there. If I go through: Training > Courses it is blank confused

It's in courses not in training.
When you do the course it automatically starts the virtual partner
Ah ok, thanks.
