Ride to work scheme.

Wife can have a bike on the ride to work scheme from halfords.

What would you recommend?

Budget is £800 might stretch further if need too.

What type of bike you after mate?

Road/Commuter/Mountain bike?

If you are after a road bike, the Boardman team carbon is by far the best bike they do, and will cost you about 800 pounds on the c2w scheme!

If you cant find the bike you want in Halfords, they can transfer the voucher for use in other shops local to you. Give them your postcode & they give you a list of shops who are part of their scheme..

Not sure if that always apply. My HR department said our company would only allow us to obtain bikes through one supplier (Cycle Solutions).

Which is a bit inconvenient when we'd rather deal with local bike shops.

They couldn't get a Brompton folder. Halfords made the voucher out to a LBS who could. My company had no involvement in that at all..

This. Halfords can order in bikes from a list of manufacturers ... my Mrs got a Cube Peleton last Sept/Oct.

Sorry guys it would help if you knew what type of bike it would be.

We normally ride on canal tow paths, gravel tracks and sometimes go to sutton park.

Was thinking mountain bike really.

I'm ordering a Cube cyclocross bike on the C2W scheme. Mostly of the miles will be using two old railway lines on the way to work.

You can use the vouchers at Leisure Lakes with no need to even speak to Halfords unless you really want to.

I'm getting my new bike from them, the only issue is that you can't use it on bikes over £1k and you can't get bikes that are reduced if they cost more than that normally (rrp).

Specialized concept stores also take them.

Not if you want a 2015 bike that's under a grand though.

It's crap you can't have a 2014 1.5k bike that's reduced to 900 quid but those are the rules. Plus it removes the need to go to Halfords who won't even let you test ride a bike before you agree to have it (special orders).

Not a mountain bike. Sutton Park is all roads and trails. Canal paths the same. You need something that'll take tyres with a bit of tread but taller, narrower wheels for the road sections.
