It looks like a perfect day for it today, sadly I've got a 2,000 word psychology essay to do so I won't be getting out anywhere today.

I'd be up for a meet some other time though.

12:30 at the visitor centre? I am keen to ride your end of the world so we can scheme our next outing over coffee and cake!!! smile

Anyone else......?

nessiemac, neenaw, Dizeee - just get in touch when you have a date in mind. Via this thread/forum, via Strava, whichever. I'm more than happy to meet you all one at a time, or all together some time. I can't promise to keep up, so you might have to slow down for me, but I just enjoy riding.

MadDad - 1230hrs at the visitor centre sounds good. I saw the link to your Chilterns loop, and it sounds interesting. But then I saw the photo of your bike stood up by itself in the massive mudbath, and thought "maybe another time". If you are happy to drag yourself down this way, I'm happy to plan something for another time. See you later!

Sounds like my kind of riding buddy!

I'm usually found riding Porridgepot and Tunnel on a Sunday morning. If anyone's in that neck of the woods, keep an eye out for a bloke with a bright green helmet (eek) riding a Canyon FS....often with the wife in tow!

I maintain that hill was unrideable. What you reckon yellowjack - at the very top where we got off it was a few metres, around 25 - 30% - loose gravel and divots... Even pushing the bikes up was a monumental task - not sure I was going to be able to push as I kept slipping. Proper core strength!

Given the way JY flew down some of the downhill sections in Swinley today I am surprised he didn't go over the edge!!!

That hill Dizeee? I'm not sure I could ride up that if it were tarmac. With that gradient, along with the roots and gravel, there's absolutely no chance of me pedaling up that.

Is there a PH Strava group I could join to find out about group meet/rides?

Here's the link for the PH 'club' on Strava... http://www.strava.com/clubs/pistonheads

...although I'm not sure that it's very much used to arrange meetings.

Most of the group stuff seems to happen in this forum, and the last couple of days, when I've met up and ridden with MadDad and Dizeee, have been arranged mostly through Strava, but directly through the 'comment' facility on individual rides. That's because we're 'following' each other on there. I don't think I even considered using the 'discussion' facility on the PH Strava site. Although that's more because I didn't think to do that, not because I thought it was a daft idea or owt.

Whereabouts in the country are you, dreamer?

Nope. It's a pretty good one. I'm only pissed that dreamer75 thought of it before I did. I'm actually feeling a bit silly for not considering it as a more inclusive method of communication than individual replies/comments on individual rides. I'm presuming that if someone starts a discussion on there, I'll get notified by the wee bell icon on my 'Dashboard' activity feed.

Haha, I didn't even know Strava had a group thing until reading this thread smile

I'm about 10 mins cycle from Red Route at Swinley so I'm up there quite often (although not ridden for the last few weeks after cracking a rib). Hopefully back riding on Sunday and defo up for group rides, especially if exploring somewhere different. I get lost so never really go exploring.

Edit - just joined the group but no idea who is who!

I live in Binfield, so am about 20 mins pedal from Swinley - I used to ride it a couple of times a week but spend most of my time on my roadie now.

I have been riding Swinley for about 15 years so am reasonably familiar with the old/loamy trails that cris-crossed the forest before it became a trail centre. Sadly the majority of them have now be returned to the wild, or dug over after several hectares of the forest have been harvested and re-planted, but a handful of the old gems still exist!

Good luck with the ribs, I crashed in Swinley quite heavily 3 or 4 years ago and broke 3 ribs (amongst many other things), ribs took about 9 months to heal enough for me to be able to take a deep breath without wincing - might be worth seeing a physio.

Thanks MadDad - I took a fall onto a tree root and pretty sure I cracked one - the usual symptoms. Strapped it up to go to BPW about 10 days later and planted t he other side into a fence  Fully plan to see a physio - it was about 5 weeks ago now and things are improving but something's locked up and got very stiff in the mean time.

I'll PM you with my true Strava name, would be good to meet up some time and be shown the trails if you're up for it! I only started riding last June so go easy biggrin

If anyone's about Monday, I'm planning on getting out on the bike, probably head to Swinley and do a lap or two.
Not sure on times yet though.
