Only £850!
For that watch?

yikes

It's only a G-Shock, FFS??? confused

Anyway, I didn't even get as far as looking at the price. As soon as I got to "...the distinctive RAF logo is embossed in white onto the band’s keeper..." it was pointless going further. wink

A bit of a giggle for anyone interested...

http://labs.strava.com/flyby/viewer/#222530929,oYA...

...play the 'Benny Hill' theme in your head while it runs wink

Bear in mind also that less than half of the GPS/Strava equipped riders are on that playback (if you want to tick them all, crack on wink ), so add at least as many again riding without GPS, and you get some idea of just how busy Minley Woods was last Sunday morning.

I know you RE appreciate the superior service so that's why I linked it.

As for the noise I've never understood it myself having lived a few metres from a runway for the past 8 years on fast jets and helicopters. Never kept me up. However I now live near a road and can't sleep at night and haven't had a lay in since I've moved there far worse noise.

Thread resurrection, maybe, but Louise Robinson, XCracer Team Rider and second placed rider in the 2Hr Female category has submitted this report on xcracer.com...

ETA:

If you've checked out the pictures on Louise's blog (above), you'll know what I mean when I say I'm glad I wasn't the only one to suffer shredded brake pads on the day!

That reminds me - ive been meaning to sign up to round 2 on the 14th. Shall i start a new thread for that - we'll see if we can get a few PH'ers?
Wondering if i need to get some mud-spec tyres ordered, unless its guaranteed there will be no rain for the next 10 days...

I might be up for having a go depending on other commitments....

I'm doing the Wiggle Fallen Leaves MTB event around the South Downs this weekend so thought that I had better order some winter/mud XC type tyres. Just picked these up from On-One/Planet-X for less than £30 delivered, fitted them yesterday - a little on the heavy side but seem incredibly well made, no doubt that they will take some effort on the tarmac but think they will come into their own on the sloppy/wet stuff. I went for 2.25 on the front and 1.75 on the rear.....

As for it not raining for another week - don't think it would make much difference as the water table is so high the trails around the Thames Valley and Chilterns are permanently soggy.

Tunnel hill drains well and is usually dry. I was there on Saturday and was perfectly alright on normal tyres. I did swap the Racing Ralph off the back for a Nobby Nic but even that's a long way from being a mud tyre.

I should be over that way this weekend if this cold buggers off. With no rain forecasted between now and then so should be even drier.

Can you ride around Tunnel hill at any time?

Thats good to know - i actually have racing ralphs front & back, so if i could avoid forking out for new tyres that would be good.

As an aside, i think i *may* have met you there once. I went exploring down to Tunnel Hill (April 21st to be exact, according to Endomondo) and couldnt find any decent trails so was looking at the maps on my Edge and a MTBer stopped and gave me some directions to some trails on the other side of the road - sure he said he was on Strava and had a name a bit like yours!

I might head over there at the weekend and try again, with a bit more practice I might be tempted to have a go at the next round.

It's possible. I'm over there most weekends and the odd weekday.

Checked on Strava and I was riding around Tunnel that day so it could well have been me. Strava is pretty good for finding the trails over there and most of the Gorrick laps are at least partly Strava'd trails - the more 'technical' bits anyway.

Just watch out for squaddies. It's their playground, so if you run into any just move on to the next area.

Start a new thread, or continue this one? I don't know - your choice. But do remember that the closing date for entries for Round 2 is Tuesday 09th December. If you haven't paid and registered by close of play (I think it's midnight, but not sure) on the 9th, then you won't get to ride.

As far as I know, mud tyres are not essential items for Tunnel Hill. I've only been up there a couple of times, but for the most part it seems to drain well, with a few specific spots that hold water in large puddles. One comment from a fellow Strava user...

Are you doing the tunnel hill one ? Will certainly be less expensive on components and it drains far better than minley !
