Thanks for all of your suggestions. I thought I'd update the thread as today I picked up my 2015 challenge. biggrin

This year will mostly be about fixed wheel, single speed cycling on the road. thumbup

And for those interested, 2014 ended up at 4,562 miles on my cranky old mountain bike. smile
Looks good - Is it Ali or Steel version?

A quick update on The Challenge half way through the year. smile

I've just passed my 2,000th mile, all in one, fixed gear. biggrin

I'm loving it, and still getting stronger/faster/fitter.

Freewheelin's Cheatin'. hehe

Disappointing...

I'm on 902km YTD, need to be over 1,000 by the then of the month to be on track for 2,015km in 2015, which should be doable.

Quarterly Challenge update time.

So far this calendar year 4,020 miles and 100,196 ft ascended (and descended again). smile

By my calculations that's about 1,018,722 revolutions of the crank. yikes

Genuinely good work on the mileage. I'm away from home so can't give you a current update for a day or two. I know my mileage is lower, but the climbing as a lot more. (Should be, since I use gears!)

I take it you're aiming for 6,000 miles?

Challenge update: I've now ridden more miles this year to date than the whole of last calendar year. smile 4,579 so far.

I don't know whether this counts as a significant achievement since last year's miles were on a cranky, heavy old mountain bike over all manner of terrain, albeit with the benefit of gears. This year has been solely on road with a much lighter machine, but only with a single fixed gear.

Freewheelin is NOT cheating! It's part of (proper) cycling. But kudos to you, well done!

Passed 5,000 miles for the year today. biggrin

Shorter days and work/life getting in the way of cycling are making it harder, but hopefully 5,500 miles by the end of the year is still possible. smile

Good work. Looks like I passed 4,000 sometime last week.

I'm currently on 255,500 vertical feet though, which would not have been fun on a fixie.

Keep it up!

Challenge completed. biggrin

Scores on the doors:
  • 5,555 miles smile
  • 132,665 ft climbed (and descended).
  • 167 rides
  • Average speed 17.1 mph
  • One gear
  • 1,407,863 crank rotations
But most importantly it's kept me fit, strong and motivated.

So, what to do for 2016? scratchchin
