They are pretty solid actually. I've put the bike on it's rear wheel a few times getting it out of the garage, forgetting that I've got mudguards on. As a result the rear guard been dragged over the garage floor and caught on a step a few times but they haven't been damaged or come loose.

I've had them on over two winters riding on road and bridleways with no issues.
Very useful - thanks

Out of interest would conventional guards fit such as SKS Chromoplastics or does it have to be the P&P in your opinion?

I think you can fit conventional guards OK as you get little adapters with the bike that convert the plug and play system to a traditional mounting eyelet. The Spesh gaurds are very neat and minimal though - it's a very integral looking set up once you've fiddled with them a bit.

If you go with the Plug & Play guards I'd strongly advise binning the cheap and nasty bolts and grub screws that come with them and fit some decent stainless ones.
The supplied torx head grub screws are worse than useless. Put some decent ones in with a small drop of Loctite and you're on to a winner.

Having not ridden the thing for ages I got back out on it a couple of weeks ago and have clocked up a few more miles. Still runs beautifully, there been a couple of generations since I bought mine but I'm happy with mine so won't be upgrading.

Interested in the Diverge or a Giant Defy? I had a Defy 2 a while back and liked it a lot. Wondering if I may like the Diverge even more?

Quite like the idea of disc brakes and see the new Defy has them as an option too..

Anyone with experience of the Defy moved to a Diverge? smile

Defy is sweet when its running, it's the front TRP Spyre that is supposed to be the best mechanical disc caliper going that is giving me issues, back at the shop now for the 2nd time.

I suspect the fork mounts need facing or the TRP mount bracket is out of true.

otherwise it is fine, but it is a pure road bike, 28mm tyres max.

They fixed it, not had a chance to have a proper ride yet

disc was warped = replaced

something nasty had got on the pads and contaminated them badly = replaced

A small test ride has show massive improvement, tomorrows weather looks promising atm.

Good to have it sorted. Discs are pretty cheap, so a simple fix for them. I upgraded the Spyre to the HyRd on my CX for an improvement.

Can't help with the Deft -> Diverge, but as an alternative have a look at the Norco Search. I looked at a Diverge and bought the Search as it (a) fitted me better, and (b) seems built for tougher things than the Diverge - thru axles, can take wider tyres, that sort of thing. Havent had it long, but seems fun on and off road.

As a brake, just a bit more braking power for same lever pressure. Slight improvement in maintenance as you don't need to adjust the pads.

I've just bought a Crux with HyRd for my lad. Compared to my Crux with Force hydraulics the performance and feel at the lever is similar but the HyRds do get very noisey occasionally. I had TRP Parabox on a PX XLS last year and they were noisy too if you ever got a sniff of any contaminant on the disc or pad. I had to swap out discs and pads together to fix the issue. I dont know why but TRP leave massive gaps between the pad and the caliper so the pads can jump all over the place. Shimano and SRAM package the pad much more securely so there's less chance of getting that horrible resonance as the pad slip-sticks over the surface of the disk....
