After slogging around on the roads using my hardtail Cannondale MTB (Hard work....), I've been looking for a winter trainer to see me through to next spring when hopefully I can score a new disc equipped Domane. I was watching a couple of Ribble 7005 bikes, but at the last minute spotted a Pro 6 with Tiagra groupset and Avid mechanical discs. I have no idea what these are worth secondhand but put in what seemed a reasonable bid and oops, won it!

Given that I have absolutely zero experience of any type of non - MTB, have I made a major error? Assuming not, what sort of changes beyond the obvious (Tyres, mudguards) will I need to make to turn it into a comfy winter roadie, up to some reasonably regular 30-50 mile rides now, and possibly further by early next year.

The sage advice of the Pedal Powered People will be much appreciated!

Jorrocks.

Tyres and mudguards and away you go. Check the front chainrings, they might be a 36/46 combination, but even if they are you'll be fine on the road.

Do some cyclocross racing as well, it's ace fun.

They're great all round bikes, perfect as a winter road bike.
I built up my Pro 6 last winter and it's been used for road riding, CX racing, commuting and some blasts on local singletrack. I've been riding 1x10 with a 42t up front and never found it lacking on the flat but you could spin out on the downhills.

Since I built it up it's probably down more miles than any of my other bikes. It's great fun!
