Steve Abraham - One Year Time Trial.

I think if Steve was doing this in a more competitive manner and basing himself somewhere more hospitable he'd be a big contender. It can't have been easy battling through the weather we've had this last year. Hopefully this attempt has given him a good enough platform to attract the support he'd need to do that. I'd be looking to base myself in Spain or to summers in England and winters in Oz.
IMVHO if it wasn't for the incident with the moped he'd have set a new record. I'm not sure if he'd have kept it for long but I think that if he'd lost out to Kurt a week afterwards he'd have the moral victory on climbing despite being down a thousand or so miles. Though with that mild Decemeber who knows what distance he might have managed in the last month. Also again IMVHO he probably kept going in case Kurt also had problems. Now it's been done and probably better to stop sooner rather than later.
The diet thing was probably in reaction to the attempt going from 12 to 18 months.
Sorry Don if your diet comment looks apropos nothing, I deleted my comment. As a guy who has never done more than 155 miles in a day, it seemed churlish on reflection. I'm in awe of his effort, commitment and sheer bloody mindedness and any questions I have on his choice of approach are frankly meaningless.

tommy godwin's record has been broken by kurt:
there's a guy called bruce berkley who starting an attempt but he's been disqualified through non compliance. not sure what will happen next.
it's a pretty mad and pointless record to try and break. that said i have been fascinated by it!

I can see him doing very, very well. He is an absolute animal.
So Steve Abraham is just over two months into the 2nd restart.
Amanda Coker has taken the record from Kurt Searvogel and is also going to carry on to the shortest 100,000 miles record. Barring any catastrophes she’ll hit about 85k for the year.
Currently I make him about 15 miles a day off her distance though she has been smashing out 270odd mile days for the last several weeks.
I hope he does it. It’s going to be a mammoth task to beat the distance when he spends a lot more time in the saddle and considerably more elevation.
