Cool, only my 3rd visit to Swinley, I imagine when it's all hard packed dry it'd be a lot faster. I've just gone single chainring and not quite used to pushing the bigger gears up hilsl yet, off to Cwmcarn tomorrow to do Twrch and Cafall so think that'll learn me :-). Swinley does have some great downhill sections that have been built really well, don't know what any of them are called, but two of the steepest sections stand out really flow very well and the jumps / berms transition really well. Got some skilled trail builders there.
yeah, swinley in the summer is lovely and fast! the berms towards the end of Blue are a nice finish - the really big one just before the zigzag climb, and the collection of 4-5 of them just after it. The biggest climb on Red always gets me sweating...

Yonex - "not very good"?! Your performance at Brass Monkeys would suggest otherwise! Anyway, the more the merrier. lets hope the weathers holds out for the next week...

So I have sent my forks off to be sorted out, they should be back on Friday. A little worried as the bike shop said they were knackered (they don't move much) which I could do without right now. Fingers crossed they come back and actually move up and down, first outing will be Swinley, what could possibly go wrong biggrin

Specifically we'll meet at the start of the Blue & green trails. If you havent been there before, you park up somewhere in the carpark, and if you are standing looking at the "Lookout" centre, you should see a kids playpark to the left, and the bike hire shop to the right. You get to the start of the trails by going right (past the Bike Hub) and follow the path round behind. I'll wear my PH top and will be on (one of my) Boardman bikes!

The bike hire opens at 9.00am, so if anyone is hiring its unfair to start at 9.00.

What if we say meet at 9.00am, for a prompt 9.30 set-off? With some stops we could do Blue & Red in 2 hours, or 2.5 hours if we add the extra loop down to the Army base.

Best put 3 hours on the ticket (at least) - never parked there personally so dont know if its per hour or a set time.

Bring a few quid if y'all fancy a coffee and cake afterwards (i assume the cafe is open on a sunday - dont shoot me if not) otherwise we can all tootle off!

I'm not going to make this one I am afraid. My regular Sunday ride has a rider emigrating to Aus and this Sunday will be his last ride, so this Sunday will be a 'farewell' ride finishing at a local pub for a few beers and some lunch.

Have fun and I will be along to the next one!

Can't make it either, family commitments.
Shame because it'd have been nice to put faces to names, always next time I guess.

I'd been looking forward to it enough that I phoned a mate and we went there today; it's all riding well, no unavoidable quagmires or puddles except after Tank Traps, the second bit of fire road has construction machinery on it and it's a bit of a mess but ridable and there's a diversion off that road cutting out the furthest trail.

Have fun.

Worst case you could always hire a bike? £15 for 2 hours, then £5 per hour afterwards. Almost worth it to save the post ride cleaning...

Is it hard tail or full sus territory? Will be a last minute decision but looking good at the minute

Still aiming to make this one folks. Even managed to blag a lift from the missus which means I'll start the trails fresh rather than have to ride a few miles to get there.

Hard tail or short travel FS is perfect for Swinley. Always was even before they 'gingerised' all the trails

Is that on the closed off bit? Ridden the red / blue 3 times in the last 2 months and if there's a rock garden it's not memorable even for someone riding a hard tail
