A bike fit, Stages meter and some coaching doesn't look quite as bling on a coffee shop run.

What's the point though if you have no goals as such?

So that you can tell people about it in the coffee shop.

You can't mention Stages at the coffee shop.

"Yeah I'm training with power now. So much more focused seeing the numbers. Added 15W since the bike fit. Coach reckons I should be able to increase by at least 25 before the Crystal Crit next month. Mocha please, Dave"

Oh no, never mention Stages. Just casually slip in a reference to how many Watts you were knocking out on the just-finished club rub. Then you'll get at least a large lattes worth of questions and conversation, and a whole pile of Kudos. Not to mention the piles of soaking wet clunge lining the streets on your ride home.

Nah not interested in those... just want to get out and ride the way I want to now and at the same time improve my decent bike. Not really much to ask for.

Had a bike fit and coaching before... bike fit is done and little point in coaching as im not doing anything this year other than concentrating on moving house and the childcare shift work struggle.

Warning though you will look a bit of a tt crusing around on club runs with super deep wheels.

But end of the day do what makes you happy would be a boring world if everyone was the same.

I wouldn't call 50mm super deep? Yes, you'll look like a tool with 80mm but loads of people ride club runs with 50mm.

You still look like a tool with 50mm deep carbon wheels on the club run but yes less of a tool if you had 80's on wink

It's interesting that some people have that mentality. Why care about what wheels or bike someone chooses.

Always thought one of the plus sides was they look epic smile

Then again I spend most Sundays and a good chunk of the rest of my free time wearing lycra in public so my taste may well be totally missing...

As I said earlier people can do what they want I just find it a little odd people spend loads of money on Aero Wheels/Helmets/Bikes only then to do club rides etc. But at the end of the day people can spend their money on whatever makes them happy and this is just my opinion

For a chunk of less money I would much prefer some lovely hubs for life (Chris Kings etc) and some normal aluminum rims you can use all year round and replace easily and fairly cheaply. Zipp rims etc are super expensive to replace and will wear out pretty quickly in sty conditions.

Enve - how could you pass up that pun? What is happening to this place.

LOL!

Nothing to do with Envy as I have 'the kit' etc but as I was saying I don't see the point of them for just club runs etc and the money would be better spent on other things they would get more/better use out of.

Fair enough, he did say he's not interested in "other things", power etc.

I think people should turn up with whatever they want to the club run.

My bike has mudguards and a rack (winter, innit), but if others come on a Dogma then it's up to them.

If your kit choice make you want to get out and ride the bike then it's a good choice.

I think cycling as a whole has a massive "hair shirt" problem, which is often indistinguishable from envy.

Ride what you want and can afford - just bear in mind that if you rock up on an Evo with HED Stinger 9's then there is an expectation that you'll be taking turns on the front for the majority of the ride.
