A - When it's the Ribble Cycles "VERY LAST CHANCE EXTRA 10% DISCOUNT OFF EVERYTHING*" 'sale'.

*OFFER EXCLUDES BIKES, GROUPSETS, GEARSETS & ENDURA - £60 MINIMUM SPEND

Now I'm a realist, and I fully understand that some things cannot be discounted for a variety of reasons. My issue really is with the inclusion of the word "EVERYTHING" in the tag line for the sale, when clearly the discount is applicable to far from "everything" as any reasonable person would likely define the word...

What a bunch of kerrrrrnuggets! irked

This will go some way to explaining why the price of the groupset (Deore 2 x 10) that I wanted wasn't reducing in price when I typed in the 'discount' code...

Get a petition going and bombard Ribble with emails with a quote from the oxford dictionary of 'Everything'

I'm not that bothered to be fair. I'm just annoyed that I spent ages trying to work out why the "extra 10%" wasn't being applied to my basket, when the goods I was trying to order weren't actually eligible for the 'discount'. I'd done exactly what the email intended, and psychologically fallen for the "Everything" bit, and not read the (far smaller) list of exclusions.
I still might go for the 2 x 10 Deore group to sort my MTB out, but at least now there's no rush to beat some arbitrary deadline, and I can go measure my current groupset to ensure I get the same crank length, etc, and check compatibility as it'll (hopefully, if the ten speed cassette will go straight onto the freehub in place of my 8 speed kit, and the new cranks and bottom bracket will fit the BB shell) be replacing a 3 x 8 Acera (and some lesser bits) groupset.

The workstand I bought 1 hour before that email hit would have been included. Grrr.

Group sets and bikes and certain brands are always excluded from the extra discount Ribble codes for some reason.

I ordered a 105 chainset from them and it came bagged up in a clear plastic bag so they're gettinf groupset bits direct from the OEMs without the official packaging at what I guess is a massive discount, hence no further money off.

I had a similar issue with CRC, it was a spend £x and get £y off, the total in my basket was more than £x, but the code wouldn't work. As above it turned out some things weren't included.

Chain reactions discounts are hard to use as they exclude lots, most notably clothing, Endura stuffs never in the sales I suppose it does mean I buy from my LBS if the price is compatible with CRC.

Ribble don't sell any official Shimano its all grey stuff out of the back of Factories hence undercutting the local dealers and the proper Distributor that spends Millions of £ stocking the warehouse and then carries the cost of Warranties. You should really only buy from your local shops...they will also match online prices in most cases, plus they will look after you and sort you out when things go wrong. PLease don't buy from the discounters as they are actively trying to kill of the real bike shops.

How can he local branch of Cycles UK match the likes of Wiggle and co. In my experience the local shops just can't get anywhere near the prices of the big online retailers. Its worth noting that Wiggle turned over £200 million in 2012! I use my local shop for servicing, but I'm not going tp pay double for an ultegra cassette even f the price does include fitting.

Also, who cares what packaging the product comes in? I purchased some Ultegra brakes from CRC recently and they came in plain plastic packaging. Didn't bother me at all smile

Anyways, CRC and Ribble have done 10% off all shimano and that did include groupsets, so maybe worth keeping an eye out for that deal. I saved a packet on Ultegra pedals, wheels and brakes. Sadly the wheels and brakes had to be sent back frown

I just ordered an Ultegra crank and used the 10% discount - worked a treat! Whats the problem?

I tend to use Ribble more than CRC now, prices are better.
