Don't think the Downslink is at all road bike friendly tbh YJ. If you're thinking riding back BL just get the train to Brighton.

scratchchin Hmmmm? idea

I'll get a train to Shoreham, quick blast across to Brighton to work up a bit of a sweat, then pretend like I rode all the way from Farnborough. Then everyone will think I've got awesome stamina when I'm not at all fatigued on the run back up to London...?

It seems rain is forecast for Saturday afternoon, but so is a 10mph tailwind smile

Spoke to JT; he's wavering I think (has been on the booze for 2 weeks...which is fair enough biggrin )

Getting increasingly jealous that I can't make this. If my little trot through the woods on Saturday morning wasn't part of a club championship I would do.

Dry skies and tailwinds to you all.

Here's an alternative for you YJ; get to Turners Hill, the route from there is bloody lovely and you also get an ascent of Ditchling Beacon under your belt, after Brighton head north with the guys and I'll ferry you back to your car from the Ashdown forest where I'm meeting Gruffy to natter about PHtDF.

Is the start time a problem? If it's causing ball ache for a few people we can shift it.
Did we change the start time to 8am in the end?

Must be honest, for me....to get there at 8am means a 0445 alarm, so earlier not exactly loved biggrin

We hadn't. If we're going to then we need to do it now.

I need to be back in London and presentable for an appointment at 5pm so if it does get pushed back to 8am then I may need to be a dick and crack on with the return leg as fast as I can manage. The weather is better earlier in the day too.

Aren't you in London Friday night for meat and beers anyway? Would it not make sense to crash over? I can't offer a bed as I have no spare room but you're welcome to a yoga mat, duvet and a bit of floor.

^ Bearing that in mind, how about just one stop in Brighton. One of the cafe's on Madeira drive, opposite the big wheel thing. The velo place will be packed anyway.

If you lot can be away from London for, say 8 you'd get there by 11-11.30, get some food down and the returners can be away by 12-12.30, workable?

Sounds wise. Can you recommend a place by name so that everybody knows what to look for? I'll update the Strava route.

We should be away by 7:15 but I think 4 hours is more realistic for some of the group. Or longer if people plan to stop midway to Brighton(?).

Actually, all the seafront places are st! Stick to Velo, it's on the Ditchling Road, so stop there on the way down imo. (with the hideous seafront visit an option afterwards).

It's a spring Saturday in Brighton so Everywhere will be busy, but there's still plenty of time for lunch and to get back by 5.

Ok decision made...early start, but actually timings easier for 7 than 8, so all ok smile

My train gets to Brixton at 6.56, which is 1.4miles away - so I will be there, but maybe a few minutes after 7.

I'm already swearing at the weather, in anticipation

I'm gonna get up at 5am even living fairly close to the park as I think my body works better after its been up for a couple of hours.

I saw a really positive weather forecast on my app this morning. A low of 10 degrees and a high of 17. The rain has all been pushed to Sunday.

I'm likely to be 'cruising' back at ~15mph as I'll burn myself out riding faster than that over 100km. Totally happy to be dropped and make my own way back though.
