I'm likely to be 'cruising' back at ~15mph as I'll burn myself out riding faster than that over 100km. Totally happy to be dropped and make my own way back though.
I think it's the hills that these nut cases are attempting on the way back that is giving me the willies,

I'll be happy to poodle back with you sir on a flatfish route back to Mitcham.

I'll have to cancel unfortunately. I hope you all have a great time and the weather isn't too bad.

I do quite fancy attacking the hills on the way back, but yes we can see how we feel and call it then.

I want you to know, G, that as much as I love you, I'm going to be swearing a lot at you on Saturday. At about 0400. Then probably 1100. Then definitely around 1500. And certainly on Sunday morning.

The last hill is 21% I seem to remember... Just what you need after 80 or 90 miles on your legs.

I'm a plodder & I'll be happy to keep you company at the back sir. The main thing is to rnjoy the day , if you don't then what's the point of doing it. You'll be fine & there's no need to worry .
Very good of you, thanks!

I'm with you on trying to tackle them but i do know my limits , I will not be ashamed to walk up some if necessary .

I've loaded the brave fools route back into my Garmin , but it looks like lots of pain returning, if we don't fancy it we can always take a more flatfish route home or even get on the train .

I've got some choice language reserved for myself but I figured it's going to be worse in Yorkshire in a couple of weeks.

The weather forecast is improving. Still a good chance of a shower at some point but looks drier and less windy than originally promised.

Let the carb-loading begin…

OK I think this might just work timings wise,

I'll set up at the pub in Turner's Hill for 9:00, refill your bidons, throw some bananas your way etc so you can get on with the job at hand and also know there's a halfway stop so two bottles on the bike should see you into Brighton, I can then go muck about on the MTB's with son and go see new avengers film nearby, then scoot across to Hartfield for a similar job on the way back.

You all get refuelled, I get to cock about on bike with Jr and see a movie, coffee and cake on the way home smile

(the Hartfiled timing is based on you hitting there at 3, if you will be past there I can adjust and intesect, will give us a chance to try out the whats app location thingamybob).

I'm hoping to be passing Hartfield by 14:00-14:30 ideally, but that may not be realistic. I'll keep you posted on WhatsApp once we've left Brighton.

looking at route I am thinking 4 hours down, 5 1/2 up stops included, with biggest stop in Brighton allowing for a drop in pace on way back due to fatigue and lumps, playing by ear will be beneficial to how we approach TdPH anyway.
