This isn't the mass-participation event. I'm simply planning to ride the route as part of my training for PH TdF 1-3. It's 55 miles (~90km) from Clapham Common to Madeira Drive in Brighton. Fish & chips for lunch and then the train back to London. Or for those aiming for the TdF weekender, it may be more appropriate to pedal back to London. The round trip (from London Bridge, anyway) comes in at 200km|2,700m which is identical to Stage 1 Leeds-Harrogate.

It's a classic route with only one major climb (Ditchling Beacon) and will make a great PH ride, without the traffic jams of the official L2B.

Riders
1. Gruffy (LBL)
2. M3John (tbd)
3. JT (LB)
4. Tony Hetherington (LB)
5. Pete (tbd)
6.

I might well be up for this but it'll depend on whether it not I can get a shift swap sorted.

Could be tempted to join in, will be very much an impulse thing, probably after waiting to see what the weather's doing, had enough of winter training already smile

I'd like to tag along, can I decide when we get to Brighton whether or not I'm too clapped out to make the return trip?

No reason why you can't decide last minute for the ride. Same with the return leg. Expressing interest here is useful though as it encourages others to join in too.

I'll be riding this regardless of the weather. If the storm has a name then I may just reduce to one-way.

I'm in for both ways if real life doesn't get in the way. We are house hunting at the moment so a lot of weekends are suddenly not free any more. Also my bike got written off but a new one is ordered and on its way. I have literally done no proper training since mid jan.

I am a maybe, depends on the knee (which appears to be feeling better). We will just have returned from Lanzarote so getting a pass shouldn't be a problem. Although that will depend on how many miles get ridden in the sun.

I would like to do the return.

I fancy having a go at this, though I am interested in what sort of pace would be ridden. I know I am not as quick as gruffy. I was chatting to a guy here who rode it a few years ago when I lent him my old Bianchi and he said that hill was a bd.

We'll quite naturally break into smaller groups I'd expect. Some may want to aim for 30km/h and others are happy at 23km/h. I suspect we'll have a big enough group that you'll always find somebody of a similar pace to ride with. And of course we'll all regroup for fish and chips and cake and coffee in Brighton.

Possible yes for L2B2L depending on if I can get a pass. Good idea though Gruffy, it's a nice ride.

I'd be tempted smile
Would be nice to meet some of the PH crowd too

Can I go down as a "maybe" subject to life the universe and everything? I'd be riding down from south of Milton Keynes so I'll have an extra 50 miles to warm up.

Just a heads up for anyone riding down to Clapham from north of the river, 25th is London Marathon day. There'll be road closures and diversions in central London that day. You may be early enough to avoid them, you may not. I don't know.

Enjoy the ride, guys. If I could make it I'd come too.

Am oot. Sorry Gruffy. A mate's birthday that day so I'm doing an MTB pub crawl from Bath to Bristol. I imagine my average speed may be somewhat slower than you guys... and my course somewhat less direct, becoming less direct still as the day wears on.
