My rides are mostly fuelled by breakfast and malt loaf. Anything over 2.5 hours and I'll add a bar or two along with some shot bloks. The gels really come into their own later into long rides where I won't be stopping. Once glycogen stores are depleted that readily-absorbed gel becomes helpful, but I'm trying to avoid them until the last 30% of the ride.

As for pace, I'm hoping for around 27km/h on stage 1, saving myself for stage 2. Given the profile I'll be happy with 25km/h for stage 2. On the Sunday, I'll hold nothing back but have no idea what I'll be capable of as I fully expect stage 2 to require some serious rule 5 reserves.

What a shame. Here's hoping we'll see you for stage 3 and some recovery shakes beer

I think we're down to just a trio of confirmed riders tackling the full monty now. Big peloton for Cambridge-London though.

Looks like a comprehensive list to me. A workstand might be a good addition for making life easier if we need to tackle larger jobs.

In my opinion 28T is probably the sweet spot, any lower and you run the risk of wussing out spinning at 5kph on the climbs for comfort making minimal forward progress.
I've just troubled Wiggle for a 32T. I'm keen to make progress but I've had a lot of knee surgery and asking too much of them on the hills is the biggest threat for me over three days.

Early enough to avoid the worst bits of rush hour. The earlier we start stage 1 the more recovery time we have before stage 2 too.

That's good news Richard.

With the pace, I was expecting a few different groups to form quite naturally. It's a bit trickier for S1 and S2 now that we've got much smaller numbers. It'll be good to keep it as social as possible but people might have varied goals from the event and we'll probably have a wide spread of fitness levels. If we're adding in two organised stops and a lunch stop, that's a lot of rendezvous opportunities, even if we are split quite widely.

Weather looks perfect this whole weekend for my 1600m in 90k Ditchling add on.

(5300ft in 58 miles in English which doesn't include getting to or riding up Ditchling itself)

I need to ease myself back into training after I've shifted this manflu, but if you're doing that near the end of the weekend I'd be up for it, assuming trains are running to get back to London.

Richard, I'd be up for that on Sunday/Monday (according to weather) and can be at the top of Ditchling for 10am. That ride takes me about 2h45m. If there's a train back to Clapham Junction (or anywhere in London) I can ride the difference from there. I'm on dog duty though so won't have the luxury of hanging around for post-ride beverages etc, sadly, as my furry little man will be on his own while I'm on the bike.

Marcellus, probably best to liaise with JustinF on the support front, but I don't think there's such thing as too many support cars smile

We also need to consider a London final meeting point, even though it is Sunday central London isn't the most car friendly and we will need to reunite riders and kit etc.
I wonder if South Carriage Drive in Hyde Park would be suitable. It's close to the finish line on The Mall and (usually) has lots of parking so it's perhaps the most obvious place to reunite riders with support crew. Not sure if there's anywhere riders could spend time waiting for others to roll in or if people will want/need to start their journeys home?

The Rapha Cafe really does have great food. It's also tolerant of smelly, broken cyclists and has 'parking' for a dozen bikes in store. Lastly, it's the closest bike-friendly location to the finish line. Trickier for cars though. There's an NCP close by (remember to remove any bikes in the roof first!!).

As suggested before, riding from That London will end up over 100m & 2000vm I expect and be quite scenic.
Sunday's route from London (Bermondsey) works out 170km and 2,700m, which is a good benchmark for Stage 1. It'll be interesting to see how I'm feeling after that. Just hope I can shift this manflu in time.

Unless the forecast changes and I need a jacket I'll be in PH colours.

It's definitely good to have some extra stops planned. If anybody is feeling strong and fancies riding straight through then obviously they can.

No news on the kit. It's expected at the end of the month, as you say.

Bloody right. I'll be looking for somewhere to hide at the back of our PH peloton.

Tricky to call the time. 10am will still mean a punishing early start for the full montys, but much later than that and we'll be a bit late into London. I think 10am is probably the best compromise.

I need to fine tune the Strava routes for stray waypoints and the exact start/finish points. I'll try to do that tonight so that you all have the most accurate files to work with.

In other news, the jerseys are due to arrive on Thursday/Friday. It's cutting it fine but I'll aim to have those shipped on Tuesday on a next day service.

With 15 or so riders I think we'd naturally break into 2 or 3 groups. Any larger than that and it can be tough to keep up a good pace.

Ideally everybody has the route so that we're covered for all eventualities but hopefully at least the majority will have it.

If all else fails, there's always the Strava app. It doesn't do turn-by-turn but you can see the route on a map.
