I'm afraid that I'm going to have to drop out of the planned first stage though. I'm not sure whether I will have the miles in the legs by then so, as they are literally my local roads, I may shorten the route a bit. I I would not want to ask people to sponsor me if there is a risk that I am not going to complete the whole thing and £50 is quite a lot for me to spend on a ride out on my normal roads.

Happy to meet up for a beer on the Thursday night or check out any accommodation for you as offered previously.

Bit of a shame really as I come back from Spain on the Thursday so it would have been a nice add on to the holiday... with tanned legs! biggrin

I've learned today that I'm not able to pull off some the grander ideas in time for this year's Tour. I also don't want to impose a charge on anybody and reduce the field. Hopefully we can still raise a meaningful sum but I think it's appropriate to make any contributions voluntary this year.

So does that mean I need to source my own EPO, HGH and Amphetamines? frown

You will have little difficulty around the Sheffield finish

Im a big fan of the city, just not the urban bits the Tour visited

Epic stage though, "enjoy" Jenkin Road!

Just uploaded today's ride and saw that I'm 50% of the way through Strava's climbing challenge with 8 days to go. Then it dawned on me that we'll do the entire 4,096m elevation of the challenge on Stage 2 alone. Note to self: ride more hills.

if you're half way there............................... KABOOM! (i'm done, now what was the challenge??)

I was going to suggest you turn the 8,100m of climbing in to 26,574ft on the description to put it all into context!

Gruffy if you need something down south to do this sportive is £30 on the 29th March.

Reasonable distance and vertical, some of the climbs are pretty steep (considering).

Meon Valley Riser,

With a lack of training I may go for the 80 mile route.

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately time is crazy tight for me at the moment and the return trip would be 3-4 hours from Bermondsey. Probably time better spent putting in extra local miles.

Apologies I can't do Sat Gruffy. But do use my route it's a belter! Finish at Eastbourne seafront if you like, it's a nice place to end a good ride.

I've added a Tour wiki to start organising the finer details. We'll use the wiki as the definitive riders list so we know how many support cars we need and how riders need transferring etc.

We're fully DIY for this year so it's up to us to make it awesome. If you know the area well please share your recommendations for hotels, restaurants, watering holes, LBS, massage and so on.

Re. the old railway carriage for stage 3 lunch. A quick look at the route gave Rayne as approx halfway, and Google tells me there's a restored railway carriage at the disused station there, by a cafe housed in the old booking hall. Could that be the one?

I've stickied both the Tour threads Gruffy :-)

Has no-one done anything about hotels yet? I'll put some suggestions together.

Cheers to you both. That's definitely the one SixPot.

Nothing's moved by way of the hotels yet. We were waiting on some bigger things but they've slipped away now. Things are getting a little hectic this end and I probably need to ask for some help on this. The hotels and the transport from Sheffield to Cambridge are the two priorities. Once we've got some recommendations I suggest people start booking independently, but if anybody is able to have a word with the hotels and see if we can temporarily hold x number of rooms (only for a week or so) to give people time to book, that helps too.

Once we know confirmed number of riders and support crew we'll figure out if we need extra support for the transfer to Cambridge on Sunday morning.

Been having a look, a lot of the hotels are getting booked up (Conference town, spa town and one of the most beautiful towns in the country!), and trying to find not too expensive but with car parking.

The cheapest is the Travel Lodge at £40 a night for a room, but they have no parking, so I need to investigate that. The brand new Premier Inn is in a great spot but is £80. Then there are the older hotels which may be a bit tired, but have plenty of rooms, or the larger guest houses, which may be open to a deal for 20 or so people, but like I said, hotels in Harrogate do not often have empty rooms.

We are not short of eating establishments smile

Looking at the stops planned we have:
1 - Cracoe at 35 miles and 2hr 30min after 2000ft climbing
2 - Reeth at 84 miles and 6hr 15min - 6000ft climbing
3 - Harrogate at 124 miles and 9hr 15min - 8600ft climbing

We have four hours and 4000 feet of climbing in between first coffee stop and lunch, which I think may be a bit much. Then nothing for the last 40 miles, which by that time, the speed may have dropped to "let's just get home in one piece pace", so may take three hours.

I would humbly suggest an alternative plan may be:

1 - Coffee stop @ Cracoe at 35 miles and 2hr 30min after 2000ft climbing
2 - Lunch stop at Hawes at 68 miles and 5hr 05min - 4400ft climbing
3 - Coffee stop at Masham at 100 miles and 7hr 30min - 7400ft climbing (Johnny Baghdad's cafe, one of our club stops!)
4 - Finish @ Harrogate at 124 miles and 9hr 15min - 8600ft climbing

This way we have it broken into 35m (2:30), 35m (2:35), 32m (2:25) 24m (1:45).

This is just a thought knowing those roads and happy for you guys to go with just the two stops... in 124 miles... and 8600 feet of climbing... justsayin wink

Is anyone else from East Anglia doing le Tour de PH?

I have a 2 bike towbar rack if needed. I would say car also, but it's a V8 4x4 and is very thirsty.

I can't make the official L2B(2L) warm-up on 25/4, unfortunately. (My excuse is I have a running race that day, so at least it's exercise even if it is of the sort frowned upon by proper cyclists).

Instead I'm doing a Sportive on Sunday 19/4, which is in the same neck of the woods as Stage 3. I mention it here in case it's of interest to other Stage 3 riders. I've started a thread for it here.
