As i now need a new one does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement helmet.
First suggestion, assuming you haven't already binned the old one, is to find out if whomever made that one does a crash replacement service. A number of the helmet manufacturers will do you a half price replacement or something similar if you've had a crash. Thanks for the suggestions, I followed the advise of trying a few on & ended up picking up this:
which was on offer for £20 (bargintastic) as it was the 2014 model.

I didn't know this but I had already chucked it. Superhoop said:
On a slight tangent, but....
How much difference is there between a road and a MTB helmet?
I've seen a MTB helmet that I like, is comfortable and at the moment, heavily discounted, but I only ride on the road. Obviously it can be used on the road, but are there any drawbacks (noise, visibility, protection etc..) oh and I hate wearing my current helmet enough, that I don't always bother
MTB helmets usually have a peak, more back-of-head protection and, annoyingly, less ventilation. How much difference is there between a road and a MTB helmet?

First ever road bike fall at the weekend - 18hr old Felt AR3. First descent - Honister Pass. Too hot into a bend, wobble, braking, skin, road, helicopter, ambulance.
Bike unscathed.
Rider bruised and scuffed.
Castelli gear torn to shreds.
All rather embarrassing, really.
And by far the most pain I've ever felt.

August in Dalby. A bit lost after 3 enjoyable hours, came to a stop at a singletrack crossroads, lost my balance on uneven ground (seat being a bit too high also not helping). Fell about a foot onto the path below, breaking the head off my radius bone. Sort of painful. Didn't hit my head though.
On the brightside I got a brief ride with a paramedic, an hour's ambulance ride to Scarborough and eventually a shiny titanium joint replacement. Been back on the bike just over a month, nothing too daring/downhilly as it hurts too much.
