I'm not talking about the old school bike from the 80s. I'm on about bikes styled on chopper motorbikes.

Does anyone own one? Photos? What are they like to ride? I've seen a few people in Europe riding them and they look cool.

A mate had one here in Frankfurt, his commute was about a mile and flat.

The thing had a 3-speed coaster brake rear hub, weighed an absolute ton, appeared to have a motorbike rear tyre, was slow and looked daft.

He absolutely loved it.

Ornaments. One of my friends has built some real contraptions...look kinda cool but have the dynamics of a bag o'spuds. Straight lines only.

Ok looking but pay a premium for a decent built one. However you will struggle to sell and even then you would pretty much need to sell for peanuts. If you need one look for a good second hand deal and take it from there. I had a few beach cruisers and learnt the hard way. I love the bikes (Felt cruiser) but you pay a premium and struggle to sell.

Part of me wants to get one of these!

Is the frame wood, or is it wood over metal?

Have at www.atomiczombie.com you get a load of old knackered steel frames and then chop them up, re use the tubes and make cool bikes

The frames are made from wood, laminated Birch with steel and aluminium inserts for strength.(BB, Head tube and dropouts) They run with either single speed or 2 speed kick back hubs with coaster brakes, hence no need for brake or gear cables.

I sold the first one but still have the second, I may take it down to bespoke in bristol to see if there is any interest

It has a very comfy riding position and I did a 30 mile charity ride on it. Maybe I should do a sportive on it

These just look great. I know the dynamics are all wrong but it's not about speed or cornering. They look comfortable to do some miles on?

ive got on of these - Electra Rockabilly boogy
Its great to ride until you get to a hill then you're knackered as your feet are too far forward and if you stand your hands are too far back!
For bumbling along its ace really relaxed.
I get it that lots of people don't like them, but nothing in my house is beige so they probably wouldn't like that either lol
A guy i know got a nerve new for for a couple of hundred quid which is a steal on the iweb. From memory mine was about £600ish

Nice bike. I've been looking at the electras myself. I'm thinking straight 8 or fast 5.

Cheers smile
rockabilly, straight and 5 are all the same with the exception that mine has triple clamps and a horribly grabby U brake.
Ive seen people convert the to hub or disc though. No need for the new ones as they look sorted.
If i was buying new again i'd get the 8 speed, theres a big gap between 2nd & 3rd. but ill live with it.
Ive ridden a touch under 40 miles on mine in one ride so they are comfortable enough.
Ratfinks are cool, they are stretched by another couple of inches.....
