So from the success of the 1st Swinley PH group ride Daddy Cool organised, http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... let's do another :-)

I propose the 1st weekend of May either Saturday 2nd or Sunday 3rd.

Official Swinley trail information here > http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/media/289819/mount...

Car parking gets damn busy on weekends so good to arrive early I'll be getting there for 09:30, so I suggest meeting at the start posts at 10am ready to depart on the ride at 10:10, ten past as facilities open at 10am should they be needed.

Regards speed etc if anyone is concerned about keeping up or us being too slow this is my Strava from last time, it does autostop and we did have plenty of stops (53mins worth) we'll always wait for the slowest rider :-)

Sunday's good for me, if everyone can say on this thread which day(s) they can do we'll go with the most popular.

Count me in. Don't mind which day. Will know which is best nearer the time.

Recent rides suggest I might be able to keep up a bit better this time.....possibly

Seeing a McLaren P1 in the metal, or seeing Yellowjack fall over while clipped in again - I know what I'll be doing.

So Sunday preference so far, I realised today it's actually a bank holiday weekend as well so I guess that'll either mean more attendees as they will only be disappearing out the house for a smaller proportion of the 'weekend', or maybe less if family stuff gets enforced :-)

Still sure to be able to get more trips in through the summer if people can't make this one.

I hope Yellowjack will be there and he's not going to be sacking off the MTB now he's got a shiny new road bike? ;-)

what is swinley like for climbs?

If there is anything significant then I'll probably be the last one to the top

There's no proper climbs at Swinley. If you do the full blue and red routes there's about 1200 ft or so of climbing, one is a short steep number but other than that nothing of note.

Steepish, but the longest lasts around 2 minutes.

fair enough, I just about survived the black loop of Glentress so should at least make it round Swinley well enough even if not particularly quickly.

hill climbing has never really been my raison d'etre

Yeah as said more or less flat, but what elevation they do have they have done very well with, some real fun DH sections just a shame they are over with in 30 / 40 seconds.

If'n you're after watching me falling over tactically rolling out while clipped in, you're on a hiding to nothing.

In all seriousness, the MTB is crocked right now. Still in it's "field conversion to single speed" state from the last time I rode it. It pretty much needs a whole groupset, which is what has put me off slinging cash at it. It's a low-rent bike from the frame up, so I'm not convinced it's worth the investment.

However. I've got a month to put it right, or I could give you lot even more of a laugh and ride it on a drop-bar bike. 'Project Frankenbike' has stalled, because the 38c tyres off the wife's hybrid won't fit inside the Ultegra brakes I've fitted, so now it'll cost money to move up from the 23c Gatorskins it was wearing. She's still on 14 speed downtube shifters too, as the front mech from the old bike don't fit, neither. Plan had been to get it reborn for close to free, but sorting it now will put me close to £200. Option 3 would be to borrow my youngest son's bike for a day.

I am interested, and I'll keep an eye on this thread, but I won't forecast my availability until closer to the time, I'm afraid. The wife may already have made plans...
