Should I replace this damaged derailleur that got banged on a wooden platform, part of the bottom bit round the lower jockey wheel snapped off. it seems to be working fine and is only 5 months old and is a SLX.

An excuse to upgrade perhaps? A new slx mech is £30. Although if it works fine no real need to fix it.

if it still work well enough then crack on. You may find that the chain comes off and gets snarled up when you back pedal in certain gears though. Also, is that another fracture on the inside of the 'elbow' of the cage?

I was trawling a supplier (think it was SJS) the other day and they had spares of these.

Looks like I was correct SJS cycles 5.99 if it's the same part.

Guessing it's on a mountainbike - if so, I'd probably replace given how much the chain is whipping around I'd want the tang that goes over the top to be there, rather than risk having it demount at the most inconvenient time possible.

Alternatively I'd bodge something together with a bit of strip metal to replace the broken bit smile
