This is one of those times where I think there'll be dozens of options, but I can't locate an Android app which will open a GPX file (or similar) and then provide turn by turn navigation as you ride.

I found a bit of my route on OpenStreetMaps and would like to export it for use on my phone:

Any suggestions would be welcome, would like to use it this weekend.

Legitimate use of lmgtfy, but unfortunately the solution seems weirdly elusive. Was hoping someone here might have something they regularly use and could recommend.

Bit of a thread necro here. Same as the OP I thought this would be real easy, but so far found nothing decent.
Which is a surprise.

Scenario:

I have a few routes in GPX format. These could be converted to e.g. ITN or what ever if it helps.
Does not need to be free, but free evaluation would be a big plus.
I'd like a navigation app that does:
  • offline maps
  • turn by turn navigation
  • import of a GPX (or any format really) route
  • navigation to that route
  • navigation of the route itself
Sounds easy, right? What I looked at so far:

1. TomTom Go
Does not open any kind of routes, ITN or otherwise. Supposedly some route planning feature from TT in the works. But not live yet if ever.

2. Sygic
Current version does not open any routes, even when stored in the still present route folder in the file system.

3. Alk Copilot
Feature seems to be there, but is a in app purchase for ~ € 24. No way to test first, no idea if it works.

4. Osmand Nav
Features are all there, but in practice the turn by turn does not work with imported routes. Gets 'lost', finds itself in wrong location, tries to reroute. In short not useable. Very average GPS on my X1 Compact likely doesn't help...

Anything else worth trying before I take chances with Alk or just buy a stand alone GPS?

I used OsmAnd Maps in the end. I didn't have any of the issues you've mentioned, just popped it by the handlebars, it announced the route and turned the screen on at the junctions and I just got on with it. Thought it was fantastic as a free app, I was moments away from buying a Garmin Edge Touring too.

If you were having trouble with it I'd guess it was either your routes or device. I think I made mine on www.ridewithgps.com and put in plenty of waypoints so it couldn't get it wrong.

I've used Osmand with amazing success on all off road routes - just download a GPX file or route from Strava and convert it and save it in the correct folder for Osmand and it picks it up perfectly. Plenty of settings to set zoom, turn by turn, and the audio instructions have all worked very well and have guided me round plenty of routes. Amazing for the price (free)!
