Well IMO this certainly looks Intresting!
Power Meters are at the moment to put it bluntly "Bloody expensive"
The nearest price comparison I can find to this begins at "STAGES" at £599.00 for my size/make of crank.
...Ok this will not be available till December at the earliest but at $249.00 + $10 shipping this certainly gets my Attention!!

Another plus in me being a total Tightarse the blurb says something along the lines of pay by 20th April for early-bird price $190 +$10 (thats £131.00 in real money!)... well I used that option an it worked!!

I realise its all sales blurb at the moment and could come to nothing but on the plus side they need to raise $100,000 and they have already got $136,267 in 3 days so I think this looks like its going to happen.
Just to make it clear I'm in no way connected to this product in anyway, just merely trying to give fellow Pistonheaders a heads-up on what could be a way forward in an expensive market.

Looks like the pedal would be a lot further out than normal

Also, I read that it doesn't allow for high end pedals that do up using an allen key, as I assume there is no hole going through it.

Check out DC Rainmakers comments - in short he thinks the delivery timeline is somewhat ambitious:

Jackal - 'Limits' posted the following response in the comments section on the crowdfunding site with regards to pedals:

'The product has a hole through the centre of the product to accommodate pedals that can only be tightened by a hex key.'

Would it not have made more sense for them to make an oversized/lolipop shaped crank arm with a hole the size of the meter tapped out of it then thread the power meter into it? would look alot better save changing pedal position and cost very little.

No it wouldn't - a specific crank arm means they have to make a variety of lengths and types to make it compatible - this option whilst moving the pedal out a bit means its pretty much universal - whatever groupset / crank you want.

i've backed it - will wait and see how long it takes to get one. i have a stages which I like will be interesting to see how this compares.

It does look promising, but I can't help feeling the Q-Factor (width apart of the pedals) will be a problem. Maybe if combined with (custom?) shorter pedal spindles?

Looks interesting. I could accomodate a 1/2 increase in width on the spindles but thats about it.

Mmm will have a look when I'm back on computer that will render the pics properly not this out of date mac.

So its a pedal based power meter you have invented . Wouldn't you look at the best selling pedal system and make sure it fit with that . Because Look pedals + lot of others use a allen key from the reverse of the spindle to tighten , and with this PM you need a pedal that tightens with a traditional 15mm spanner .... So thats Speedplay then .

Dumb question coming.

I'm guessing with something like this you'd need a ANT+ unit to act as the head unit like a 510 or similar? When I've looked at power meters previously (purely out of interest as I barely put out 3 digit watts) I got confused as to if they came with them.

This ones so cheap, I'm guessing that's 1 of the areas they have managed to cut down the price.

From the DC Rainmaker article linked:

"It will transmit ANT+ initially, and then Bluetooth Smart support down the road."

So something that'll support Ant+ devices (Garmin/IOS device).

Which option did you choose if you don't mind telling. For $190 I'm in, $250 I'll think about it as thisfor me is completely frivolous!

After a rather long wait - this finally arrived this morning.

They've taken a beating over keeping people up to date and the schedule slipping - then they fell out with Ray from the DC Rainmaker blog..........

Will fit it tonight and go for a test tomorrow, interested to see if it actually works let alone is accurate!!
